How to Change Carrier Name on Verizon Galaxy Nexus on Jelly Bean

Jelly Bean was announced just a few weeks ago and the developers are working day and night to bring the best mods for it. This time, they have come up with a MOD that allows you to change the Carrier Name on your Verizon Galaxy Nexus running on Jelly Bean. By changing the carrier name, you can have your own name at the place of carrier name or any text you would like. Here’s a simple guide explaining how you can install this MOD on your Verizon Galaxy Nexus.

I. Before You Begin:

1. The following MOD works on Verizon Galaxy Nexus only.

2. You must have rooted your smartphone before doing this procedure. Please head to our how to root Galaxy Nexus procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the MOD File from here. (Download Carrier.zip if your phone shows Verizon Wireless OR download T-CDMA 64.zip if your phone shows T-CDMA 64)

2. Download the Astro File Manager App from here. (Google Play Link)

III. Changing Carrier Name on the Phones showing up Verizon Wireless.

1. Download and place the ZIP archive onto your Desktop.

2. Extract files from it to your Desktop,

3. You will get a file called spn-conf.xml. Open it using Notepad on your PC.

4. Change the text which is underlined below in the file.

<spnOverride numeric="310005" spn="Verizon Wireless" />
<spnOverride numeric="310012" spn="Verizon Wireless" />

</spnOverrides>

5. Save the file on your PC using the File>>Save option.

6. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.

7. Transfer the spn-conf.xml file you just edited to the root folder of your phone’s SD card.

8. Install the Astro File Manager app on your phone.

9. Open it up and navigate to the /sdcard/ path.

10. Copy the file you transferred to your phone to System/etc folder.

11. Exit the App and reboot your smartphone.

Good Job ! You have successfully changed the carrier name on your Galaxy Nexus.

IV. Changing Carrier Name on Phones showing up T-CDMA 64:

1. Extract files from the T-CDMA 64.zip to your Desktop.

2. You will get a file called eri.xml after extraction. Simply open it with Notepad on your PC.

3. Change the underlined text to whatever you want:

4. Save the file from File>>Save.

5. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.

6. Transfer the eri.xml file to the root folder of your phone’s SD card.

7. Disconnect your phone from the PC after you have transferred the file.

8. Open up the Astro File Manager app on your phone.

9. Navigate to the /sdcard/ path in the app and find the eri.xml file.

10. Copy it to the /data folder on your phone.

11. Exit the app and reboot your phone.

Cheers ! You have successfully changed the carrier name on your smartphone. From now on, your phone will show the text you added in the XML file instead of the actual provider name.
