How to Install TWRP Recovery on the Asus Nexus 7 3G
The stock recovery on the Nexus 7 doesn’t provide options to flash custom ROMs and Mods, hence even with root-access, you can’t really take full advantaged of it. Custom Recoveries help in this situation as they sit on the place of your stock recovery and provide you with plenty of options to choose from, options ranging from backing up ROMs to installing new ROMs. One of these custom recoveries is TWRP Recovery, a touch-based recovery that lets you flash custom ROMs and Mods on your Nexus 7 without much exertion. Follow this guide to install TWRP Recovery on your Nexus 7 3G device and have the freedom to customize your device!
I. Before You Begin:
1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Our How to Root the Nexus 7 guide should help you with that.
2. This will replace your current recovery with the TWRP Recovery.
3. This works on the Asus Nexus 7 3G model only.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. TWRP Recovery Image (Download the latest version of Recovery)
2. Fastboot
III. Installing TWRP Recovery on the Asus Nexus 7 3G:
1. Download and place both the files onto your Desktop.
2. Unzip files from the Fastboot archive to your Desktop. You’ll get fastboot.exe and some other files.
3. Turn OFF your Nexus 7 device.
4. Reboot your device into Fastboot mode. To do so, just press and hold the Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.
5. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
6. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. It can be done by pressing and holding the Shift button on your keyboard and right-click on any blank area on the screen, then select Open command window here.
7. Type in following command into the Command Prompt Window replacing recoveryfilename.img with the actual name of the Recovery Image you downloaded.
fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
8. Once the recovery has been flashed on your device, reboot your device.
9. You’re all set!
Wonderful! Your Nexus 7 3G is now rocking TWRP Recovery and is ready to be flashed with some really amazing ROMs!
