How to Root (and Unroot) the Pantech Breakout

Rooting your Pantech Breakout is the second part of liberating it and enjoy installing all those root-requiring apps that everybody else seems to have.  The procedure is pretty straightforward and you should be done in no time.  So read on to know how to root the Pantech Breakout and (if needed) unroot it later.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  You will need a custom recovery installed already for the following procedure to work.  If you don’t have it, use our guide for help with this.

2.  As always, back up everything you feel is important and charge your device to 75% or more before you begin.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  BreakoutRoot.zip [Link available in the Downloads section of this post]

2.  BreakoutUnRoot.zip [Link available in the Downloads section of this post]

III.  Rooting the Pantech Breakout

1.  Connect your device to your PC and copy both BreakoutRoot.zip and BreakoutUnRoot.zip to your SD card.

2.  Power down your device and pull the battery out.

3.  Put the battery back in, press and hold the Search and Power buttons until the splash screen is done.

4.  Once in CWM Recovery, navigate to Install zip from sdcard using the Volume Up/Down rocker and the camera button it select it.

5.  Navigate to the location of BreakoutRoot.zip and select it.

6.  Confirm flash on the next screen.

7.  Go back to the main menu and select reboot system now.

You should find the Superuser app installed in your app drawer, signifying that you now have root access.  If you still feel the need to verify root access, download Root Checker from Google Play to help you do this.

IV.  Unrooting the Pantech Breakout

Follow the same steps as in previous section but use the BreakoutUnRoot.zip file this time around.

  1. I realize this was written 3 or 4 years ago so I hope you still monitor the page. I followed your instructions but when I chose the zip file in recovery mode I got a “signature not valid” error and it aborted the installation. What do I need to do to be able to install it on my phone? Thanks.
