Google Glass Now An App Available for Android Devices

Outside of the small group of Google Glass Explorers very few people have actually been able to use Google Glass. Even the Explorers had to pay $1500 after they won a competition to use the wearable tech. Now many more people will be able to try out the tech thanks to developer Zhuowei Zhang.

Zhang has taken the glass source code that was recently released to the dev community and modified it to run on Android phones. The best part is that it indeed works. Obviously you won’t get the entire augmented reality glass experience, but you will be able to get a peak into the software behind the Google Glass experience.

By downloading the hacked Glass home APK, then grabbing the Camera, Maps and Setup plugins you can shout out, “ok glass” commands until you’re blue in the face.  As expected, not everything works like the Glass Maps application, for example, will not recognize taps.

Also don’t expect the app to be compatible with every Android device. It does, however, run quite nice on the Nexus 4  If you’re interested you can download the APKs at here. If you take this app for a test drive, don’t forget to let us know how it works for you in the comments below.
