How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the ZTE Racer

Sick of using only root-only apps on your ZTE Racer smartphone? Want to completely change your user experience by trying out various custom ROMs on your device? You’re in luck. A custom recovery is available for your device allowing you to flash any zip file on your device, be it a custom ROM or a mod file. Apart from flashing, you can take nandroid backups, restore backups and do a lot of things that your stock recovery doesn’t have support for. So if you’ve finally decided to go for a custom recovery, here’s how you can get one for yourself:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before you can do this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the ZTE Racer procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

2. This should work on Windows based PCs only.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Recovery Image (Download link’s given in the first post)

2. Fastboot

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the ZTE Racer:

1. Download and place both the files on your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Fastboot archive over to your Desktop.

3. Rename the Recovery Image to recovery.img.

4. Turn OFF your device.

5. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after a couple of seconds.

6. Press and hold the Volume UP+Power buttons together and you should reboot into the Fastboot mode.

7. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

8. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, simply hold down the Shift button and right-click on any blank area on your Desktop and choose Open command window here.

9. Type in following command into the window:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

10. It should flash the recovery image on your device, wait till it finishes flashing the file.

11. Reboot your device once the recovery’s been flashed.

12. You’re all done!

Brilliant! You’ve successfully flashed a custom recovery on your ZTE Racer smartphone. Custom ROMs and Mods are now a touch away from you!
