How to Install Custom Recovery on the QMobile Noir A8 running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean

The Qmobile Noir A8 is an affordable Android phone, featuring a 1GHz dual-core CPU, a 4.3 inch touchscreen display, a 5MP camera and the usual bevy of features that accompany any mid to high end Android devices.  The device can now be rooted but before that, you’ll need to have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod Recovery in this case) installed on it to actually root it.  Installing ClockworkMod Recovery not only enables you to root the device but also make/restore backups, wipe cache/system, etc.  The guide below should help you achieve this and, in a later post, you can go ahead and root your Qmobile Noir 8!

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Charge your device to 75% or more to prevent unwanted shutdowns.

2.  Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed before you start.  If you are unsure, use the links (#1 and #2) in the next section to download and install them.

3.  Back up everything you feel is important before you begin.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  A8_usb_driver.zip [File attached to this post]

2.  MT6577 USB VCOM drivers.7z [File attached to this post]

3.  SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1252.1.rar [File attached to this post]

4.  ROOTING.rar [File attached to this post]

III.  Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the QMobile Noir 8

1.  Power down your device and pull out the battery for 5 to 10 seconds.

2.  Extract SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1252.1.rar to a folder on your desktop.

3.  Extract ROOTING.rar to a folder on your desktop.

4.  Double-click on Flash_Tool.exe to run the SP Flash Tool.

5. Click on the Scatter-loading button, navigate to the location of MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc_PMT.txt in the extracted ROOTING folder on your desktop and select it to load it on to the Flash Tool.

6.  Make sure that only RECOVERY is ticked in the list that has now appeared on the Flash Tool.

7.  Click on the Download button; if get a warning pop-up, click on Yes.

8.  Put the battery back into your device and power it on.

9.  Enable USB debugging on your device by going to Settings > Developer Options and ticking the USB debugging checkbox.  If it installs drivers at this point, let it do so or use the ones provided in the previous section.

10.  Once the drivers are installed, power your device down and connect it to your PC using a compatible microUSB cable.

11.  The SP Flash tool should now start flashing the custom recovery image to your device and show a green circle icon to signify success.  If not, make sure that you have the necessary drivers installed and try again!

And that’s it!  You now have ClockworkMod Recovery installed on your Noir A8.  To access CWM, power down your device and press and hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until your device boots into ClockworkMod Recovery.
