How to Root the Nextbook 8 (NX008HD8G)

Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device.  Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.

Once you have root access on your Nextbook 8, you’ll be able to:

  • Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
  • Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
  • Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
  • Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
  • Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
  • Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

Interested? Here’s how to root your Nextbook 8:

I. Before You Begin

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. This should work on the devices launched after August, 2013.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Cydia Impactor and save it to your Desktop.

III. Rooting the Nextbook 8 (NX008HD8G)

1. Extract files from Cydia Impactor by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.

2. Double-click on Cydia Impactor executable and it’ll open.

3. Turn ON USB debugging on your device by heading to Menu > Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.

4. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.

5. Choose # drop SuperSU su to /system/xbin/su from the dropdown menu and hit Start.

6. It’ll inject the required SU binaries to your device.

7. Once it’s done, head over to Google Play and download and install the SuperSU app on your device.

8. You’re done!

By the way, don’t be scared, you can always put your device back to stock by heading to our Rooting How To’s section, finding your device, and doing the How to Unroot listed for it there.

  1. I managed to get root access, i noticed a couple of times in theis tutorial though it said see bottom of post for info on how to install custom roms/update android version yet i cant see anything like that anywhere in this post.

  2. if you use this and have BlueStacks installed, make sure that you have quit BlueStacks. It will confuse the Impactor, and will not work.

  4. (Turn ON USB debugging on your device by heading to Menu > Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.) I got as fare as Setting , but no Developer options, help?

    1. First you do need to do this: Settings > About tablet – tap quickly 8 or so times on the title . You’ll receive a message that you’re a developer. Now you can do Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging.

So I am trying to help a friend unlock an old NX008HD8G which has the following string after consisting of [0123456789ABCDEF]. He bought it from Walmart years ago and is just getting around to re-purposing it. During the SU install we get the following message:

    file: adb.cpp; line:525; what: INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_APK

    Any help here? Thanks.
