How to Root the Oppo Find 7 (Video)
After you guys requested this how to for a while, I finally got a chance to film it. I already showed you have to root the Find 7a so not here’s how to root, its bigger, badder, brother, the Find 7. In case you might be wondering why people have been requesting it, it might have something to do with the how to install CyanogenMod for both Find 7’s that has people interested. Frankly, the ColorOS on these Oppo phones isn’t the greatest and the idea of replacing it with the same OS that comes on the coveted OnePlus One, is well, an exciting prospect.
So without further ado, here’s how to root the Oppo Find 7 and then afterwards you can click the link at the end of the procedure to be taken to the tutorial to get CyanogenMod up and running.
I. Before You Begin
1. This tutorial only works on Windows.
II. Flash a Custom Recovery
1. Turn off the phone.
2. Turn it back on by holding down volume up and power until you get into fastboot mode.
3. Plug the device in via USB to the computer.
4. Download the Recovery Installer for the Find 7 from the developer and save it to your desktop:
5. Double click the Recovery Installer exe file to run it.
6. Type the number of the option to install gummy TWRP recovery for the Find 7 standard and hit enter.
III. Root the Find 7
1. Type the number of the option under the second menu to boot TWRP and wait for the device to reboot.
2. On the Find 7, tap Reboot in recovery and then System.
3. When asked if you want to install SuperSU, swipe to confirm.
4. When it reboots, pull down the notification shade and tap SuperSU Installer.
5. Tap Play.
6. Tap Update.
7. Open SuperSU.
8. Tap Continue.
9. Tap Normal.
10. Tap OK.
IV. Confirm You Have Root Access (Optional)
1. Open the Play Store.
2. Search for and install Root Checker.
3. Open Root Checker.
4. Tap Agree.
5. Tap Okay.
6. Tap Verify Root.
7. Tap Grant.
8. If it says Congrats, then you are rooted.
V. Confirm You Have a Custom Recovery Image (Optional)
1. Open the Play Store.
2. Search for and install Quick Boot.
3. Open Quick Boot.
4. Tap Recovery.
5. Tap Grant.
6. If it reboots to TWRP, you have a custom recovery (tap Reboot > System to return to normal Android).
After this, you can head to our How to Install CyanogenMod on the Find 7 tutorial and give that sexy hardware the sexy software it truly deserves.
Awesome… but what if you only have access to a Mac?
Unfortunately, this will be the easiest way so I’d recommend just borrowing a friend’s PC (guarantee you have at least one friend with one). After rooting, you won’t need the PC again to flash ROMs etc.

Sorry but usually how it goes with rooting procedures, easier to make a Windows Script for it than Mac.
IF you were so inclined though, the procedure for Mac would go like this:
1. Download and install the SDK for Mac and set that up so you can use ADB/Fastboot and see your phone properly.
2. Download TWRP recovery for the Find 7 directly from TWRP’s site or by searching on Google.
3. Turn off the phone and turn it back on by holding down volume up and power to get into fastboot.
4. Plug it in.
5. Open Terminal on the Mac and cd to the directory that has fastboot in it and then type:
./fastboot flash recovery [nameoftherecovery].img
6. Boot into recovery and follow the tutorial above from there.
OR… you can borrow a friend’s PC 🙂

I already rooted my Oppo with Root Genius. I assume I don’t have to follow section III?
Do it anyway and if it doesn’t ask you to install SuperSU (cause you already have it) you can continue as normal.

It didn’t wipe it for me but always backup anything just in case.

I just rooted my phone yesterday and now the system updates are not installing. Each time I try to install the update, it reboots my phone and goes to the “teamwin” where you can go and do the recoveries and everything. So is there anyway I can get past this? I’ve attached a picture of the version of ColorOs I have and the update I am wanting to install. I have the X9076 model with ColorOs of V1.2.1i if that information is needed.
You can’t install (and shouldn’t ever) system updates when rooted. Either unroot, update, then hope you can root the new update or just dismiss the update.

Hi there i can not sync music through my computer on find 7….when i connect my find 7 to computer there is no icon for downloading music…i think something wrong i had install the oppo driver for find 7 but still not working..what should i do to work..

1. Will this procedure work with the Chinese version of Find 7 x9077?
2. I cannot access Google Play Store without VPN. So in section III step 5 I cannot choose Play. Is there another way to install the superuser app?
It should work on all versions.
And you can Google for superuser .apk download and try and download it manually and install it that way.

Hi, excuse me, but I cannot uninstall TWRP. What and how have I to do to uninstall ? I received a new update software can not be installed because it always jumps to recovery .

I Have followed this procedure very carefully but when I get to the step III 7 -> Open SuperSU I get:
“There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!”
What now? Everything was going very smoothly till that point
Did it ask you to install SuperSU when you were in recovery (step 3 in Section III)? You need to do that first. Go back into recovery and make sure to do that.
Yes I did that, I swiped to the left and it appeared to have worked. Should I try everything from scratch?
Just boot back in to recovery and try that again.
Just to be clear, because it is not very clear in this tutorial. The option I used is:
“Install Gummy TWRP 2.7.1.0 (For Find 7 standard).”
Followed with the the equivalent Boot command.
These are the only ones that seem close to what you write in your tutorial which is ” install TWRP recovery for the Find 7 standard”
The second time around it didn’t ask to install Super SU. I think it’s because I did it before so it can see that it’s already there
Try supersu now and see if it still doesn’t work.
If that doesn’t work, boot into recovery go to advanced and click fix permissions (the options might be in a different place but it’ll be similar to that). Then reboot. If it still doesn’t work after that. Start over. If that doesn’t work, please contact the toolkit developer.

Well the link you provide points to the Installer which now has different options so this video is already out of date.
Still, I think “”Install Gummy TWRP 2.7.1.0 (For Find 7 standard).” is the right option because it comes last like it does in your video.
SuperSU is still busted, I will have to dig deeper to get this issue fixed and to find a way to get it working.
I have same problem with Nick but I think I made it a little bit worse…. :/
I installed supersu by apk and i got the same error regarding su binary. So i tried to uninstall supersu and try from the beginning. I could not uninstall it and after a while I tried a factory reset.
Again, nothing… The “install superSU notification” is always there and i cannot remove it.
Now, i can only boot to Oppo’s recovery and by doing the same process from the beginning I get stuck at step II-6. “FAIL. Device is not unlocked”.
Any idea how i can fix this? Please help!

I managed to fix my problem yesterday. I am now running CyanogenMod on the Oppo Find 7 and loving it.
It was a very messy thing to fix. I tried installing superSU via the TWRP and that messed things up a lot, it make the app uninstallable and the app was still giving me the error message. I then cleared the dalvik cache via TWRP and installed superSU 1.6.5 and that worked!

Just to be clear. The procedure was done (and the video) exactly as the options were when I did it. If they are different then the developer changed the options after I did this which I can’t control.
If you booted into recovery then that’s fine for the command.

Does the notification light work with cm 11 on find 7
I don’t have CM11 on it right now so can’t check for you but take a look at the features list for the ROM and it should say what works and what doesn’t.
It doesn’t work on my Chinese version Find7. When I run to step II6, It show an error message “Device not unlocked cannot boot”

That step only works for the version of the Oppo mentioned by the toolkit.
I’m on the same boat with Gary there. I have the Chinese version of the OPPO Find 7 (X9077). When i get to section II step 6 I get the message that says “Device not unlocked cannot boot”, What can I do? Any suggestions?
Check with the toolkit developer to see if they have plans to support that specific version or if they know of a recovery for it.
I just bought oppo find 7 a for my son, unfortunately when he tried to plug the charger it didn’t work also when he turned on the cell phone it just died by it self and actually the battery still on 45 % , do you guys know how to fix it? Thanks
That has nothing to do with this tutorial.
Same thing happened to me. It’s the charger. Tell Oppo about the issue and they’ll send you a new charger (don’t mention rooting or any of that it’ll just confuse them and they’ll blame it on that but it has nothing to do with it).

Hey, I just had the time to try it.
I wiped dalvik cache via TWRP and then installed superSU 1.65. I updated the app through Play Store but then it gets stuck to installing the in-app update. I choose normal update as David shows on the video.
Anyway, how can I uninstall the v1.65 superSU and try with v1.94 as does David? Now dalvik does not remove it and superSU app does not have an uninstall option.
David, great video, but like a lot of people when I get to the install Super SU stage I get the same error messages as others “There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!” It appears that one of the posters Nick found a solution, but could you post a video showing step by step what he did because I couldn’t follow?
I just updated my Oppo Find 7 (X9076) Color OS 1.2.6 to ColorOS version 2.0.0i. Does this rooting method works in this ColorOS version or should I downgraded first to back 1.2.6?
I believe it still works, but you’ll have to try it and let us know as I no longer have an Oppo.

I have tried all the steps given by you on latest updated Oppo Find 7 Colors OS 2.0.2. When I try to run the Step III its not letting me install SuperSU.. everything runs fine when it says swipe to install supersu .. but when the device gets reboot and we have to choose install supersu from notification bar .. it says fetal error no binary Su installed.
Try and reinstall it from recovery a few times and see how it goes.
I tried multiple times but its dead now.. my device got stuck on Oppo Logo no moving further tried multiple steps..

I tried this and tried again rooting but then accidentally wiped phone which made it completely dead, also tried fastboot flash recovery recovery.img process using adb cmd but nothing worked so far but good thing my device is getting into fastboot everytime…

i just update from cyanogenmod 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 the first time i try the OTA my phone stay at a bootloop i wipe everything and install the cyanogenmod file of 5.0.2 and works the phone boot, but now i check i dont have root access i try installing the superSU app but its not working and also use the recovery mode to install a zip file with the recovery but didn’t work either, any idea of what i can do?
That would be a question for Cyanogen honestly. You’ll have to check with him as it’s his ROM.
