How to Root the LG Optimus Fuel

Got a shiny new LG Optimus Fuel and wish to obtain root-access on it? No worries, here’s how to root your Optimus Fuel and get SuperSU running on it.

Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device.  Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.

Once you have root access on your LG Optimus Fuel, you’ll be able to:

  • Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
  • Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
  • Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
  • Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
  • Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
  • Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

Interested? Here’s how to root your LG Optimus Fuel:

I. Before You Begin

1. This’ll void the warranty of your device. We won’t be held responsible if you end-up bricking or damaging your device. Do it at your own risk.

II. Rooting the LG Optimus Fuel

1. Open a web browser on your device and head over to the Towelroot website.

2. Tap on the big Lambda icon. The towelroot app should begin downloading on your device.

3. Enable Unknown sources on your device by going to Menu > Settings > Security > Unknown sources.

4. Open File Manager and tap on Towelroot and it’ll install on your device.

5. Once installed, open it from your App Drawer.

6. Tap three times on the message that says welcome to towelroot.

7. A box should appear with some values in it. Change those values to 1337 0 0 0 4 0.

8. Tap on make it ra1n.

9. It’ll begin rooting your device.

10. When it’s done, head over to the Google Play store and download and install SuperSU on your device.

11. You’re all set!

Congratulations! Your LG Optimus Fuel is now rooted and has SuperSU installed on it. You can confirm the root-access by simply installing Root Checker from the Google Play store.

    1. Tap the “welcome to towelroot” logo up top. It doesn’t look like a button but it is. Then it will allow you to change the values stated in the directions above. After changing the values you are then ready to hit the “make it rain” button. Just some friendly advice…..If you are not someone that pays very close attention to detail and follows instructions to the letter you WILL brick your phone attempting to do things like this. Out of about twenty different phone models that I have rooted this is by far the simplest method I’ve used. These phones are delicate to say the least. You MUST pay attention to the instructions carefully. Good luck and happy rooting!!!! 🙂

  1. i clicked the link for the current lg optimus fuel roms page..and it says it doesnt exist i dont think there are even any roms out for it

  2. I followed all steps but i get a message when trying to make it ra1n that my lgl34c isn’t currently supported. What else can I do?

    1. after you tap welcome to towelroot three times the will be a box that appears just type in these numbers
1337 0 0 0 4 0 then push make it rain that should solve your problem,

  3. I’m about to do some intensive searching for a rom for the Optimus Fuel. Who’s with me? I’ll be back here to share my findings. Wish me luck!!!

        1. The browser said it’s a malware because the root exploits have always been detected as viruses/malwares.

Towelroot has rooted many devices and you shouldn’t have any issues with it. Just go ahead and have your device rooted!

          1. Okay sounds safe like I said I’m new and I hate 4.4 and want my phone freed from Google Ya know lol thank you very much for answering man

  4. i followed all the steps for my lg optimus l70 i get the message isn’t currently supported what can i do to get my phone rooted

Just did this 3 days on 4 LG Fuels, worked like a charm.
Grabbed 4 more Fuels today exact same phone/carrier and now it’s telling my this phone isnt supported. ?

  6. ok I too had the result to be “not supported” on my brand new LG Optimus Fuel and as a result uninstalled towelroot, rebooting my device several times, thereafter I installed towelroot a second time successfully.

My observation is to not back space 1337 0 1 0 40 to change to 1337 0 0 0 40,but to move the blue pointer to just after the 1, touch on the x to remove the 1 then change to zero.

Had I of done this the first time I am sure I would not have posted this for all to know.

Thank you for a wonderful root!

  7. I did this and it worked great except now I cant get to my system menu. It keeps giving me system has stopped working. Can I fix this? Is there a way to unroot it now?

    1. Hi Lesha,

This shouldn’t cause any issues with your device’s system as it does NOT flash any pre-rooted image or a firmware.

However, if you think the issue’s been caused by this procedure, you can unroot your device by opening the SuperSU app on your device and then heading to Settings followed by Full unroot. That should help you unroot your device.

      I hope this helps!

      1. Thank you for such a quick reply. I did what you said and it worked, but I still can’t get into settings. 🙁 I don’t know what I did wrong. Any ideas how I can fix this?

  8. After I tap ” make it rain” it says ” this phone is not supported ” and it’s an LG Fuel…but, one that I had received from the warranty dept that has been refurbished.
My first LG Fuel phone, Towelroot worked awesome, then the screen went black after 3 months of use so they send a replacement.

    1. Dirty warranty dept,,They sent you a ”patched” non-rootable replacement..Just like me purchasing a Lg Lucky on black Friday,it’s unrootable and I have tried everything, thinking it would be easy like it was with my fuel purchased when they first came out..! most low end devices from 6 to 8 months ago have all root exploits patched..!!

        1. I feel you but, thing is with these LOW END devices….Iv’e learned a thing or two, best bet is to purchase a High end device, that’s what the Developers will work high and low to get those devices rooted..My next device will be Lg 3g XDA forums has tons of support (root) and unbricking, and upgrades..Seller on Ebay has them for $75 shipped..High end devices all the way for me from now on..Forget Walmart and the dollar store devices….

          1. I really don’t see the point of rooting–no custom ROM at all. It has KK 4.4.0–want 4.4.2 or better to Chromecast Chrome. Not possible. Probably can’t improve a high end device much by rooting. Don’t want to buy another phone yet.

LG has a software upgrade app on it–totally useless and never activated by LG at all. Stupid Co. Stupid, comically limited PRC devices, period: F all of them–Samsung, IOS, Lenovo, LG, Acer, Asus, etc! PCs (or Macs, if you insist) are way better.

Don’t you see the wicked plot? No user control over content (later on) is permitted–even useful config of your stupid device proves comically limited. In the end, this will end up akin the old TV days–the lumbering angry, incompatible, over-puffed, coddled, and badgering mega-conglomerates will dole out content as they see fit–charging what they want–capriciously limiting or killing access to content, etc. (It’s plainly obvious that they actually wish to charge ala carte–every TV episode, every movie, every tune, every possible resolution and feature, etc.) The cloud isn’t magical–the cloud is sick and evil.

So, some tech potentates from LG f over your device–after all, they wish then to ensure that it’s less useful again!: Get it?! That’s very telling. You had no choice in the matter–certainly, you didn’t give consent. Not yet comprehending relevance, even given this late date, they carpet-bomb clueless and irrelevant ads up us—whatever–generally, the doddering, befuddled, and destructive old economy has proven best able to extract the huge funds from us, of course! Such cos. prefer no better approach than the twin paths of least resistance and effort–it’s what they’ve always done, after all.

Android is a toy OS, anyway–problematic, buggy, intentionally limited, and stupid: It’s designed mainly for figuring us out and for controlling us. ‘You can’t do this, you must do that! We want this–or else! You must now purchase another device, you must upgrade your connectivity, this is now incompatible and legacy…’–etc.
