How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile)

Maybe you just bought yourself a Samsung Galaxy Light from T-Mobile? Maybe you want to enjoy more on your device than what you do now? This guide should help you root your Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile) to let the root-only apps and custom ROMs in. Here’s how:

Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device.  Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.

Once you have root access on your Samsung Galaxy Light (T-Mobile), you’ll be able to:

  • Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
  • Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
  • Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
  • Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
  • Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
  • Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

  1. Hello, i need help

On step 14 i did what it said: hold down Volume UP, Home, and Power buttons together.

but my device never took me to the TWRP Recovery mode.

    1. It says to copy the SuperSU .zip file that you have downloaded on your desktop over to your SD card (root folder is nothing but the main directory on your SD card that you see when you open your File Manager).

      Hope it helps!

  2. I got all the way to step 12 with no obvious problems, and than when I pressed start, it just said ” All threads completed. (success 0 / failed 0)” I’m not sure what it means, but my phone isn’t changing from the downloading screen.

    1. It seems the tool couldn’t flash the file on your device. What I suggest you to do is right-click on Odin executable and select Run as administrator. It should do the trick.

      Thanks!

      1. I did what you said, and I got the same result, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but I think it’s something with the TWRP Recovery file

  3. Got it. worked like a charm. Tyler, I had that too, nothing is happening on Odin. But i noticed that ID:COM was blank. That first box under that should turn into yellow IF the phone is detected by the PC. if not, remove USB cable and plug back in. Then boom. worked!! Thanks!!

  4. I’ve got a brand new Galaxy Light and can’t seem to get this to work. I get as far as loading TWRP but when I try to install SuperSU I get the error “E:Unable to mount ‘/preload'”. Any ideas?

  5. I did all the steps and nothing failed, but when I went to go on root checker, it said that I haven’t rooted yet. :l

  6. Everything goes well for me up until step 17. SuperSU doesn’t show, and I made sure it was copied to the root of my SD card. Please help!

  7. Ok Im stuck on steps 14 & 15

    14. Put the battery back in your device and hold down Volume UP, Home, and Power buttons together.

    15. Your device should reboot into TWRP Recovery mode.

When I reboot it reboots the normal way. I’m not getting TWRP. Any help?

  8. I’m getting an error during the SuperSU install
    Updating partition details…
    E:Unable to mount ‘/preload’

Yet under the Home icon, it says Successful. the device is not rooted. Please help. Thanks.

  9. updating partitions:
