How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (Sprint)

The Samsung Galaxy Note Edge arrived on Sprint, which was immediately followed by a method that roots this carrier-specific variant of the device. So if you have this pair, the Galaxy Note Edge and Sprint as your carrier, here’s how you can gain root on your device:

Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device.  Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.

Once you have root access on your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (Sprint), you’ll be able to:

  • Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
  • Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
  • Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
  • Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
  • Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
  • Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

I. Before You Begin

1. This’ll void the warranty of your Sprint Galaxy Note Edge. You’re doing this procedure at your own risk.

2. This only works for the SM-N915P variant of the device. Do not try this on any other device.

3. You need to have a Windows based PC to do this procedure.

4. Make sure you have Samsung USB drivers installed on your PC.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Odin and save it to your desktop.

2. Download CF-Root and save it to your desktop.

III. Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge (Sprint)

1. Uncompress files from both Odin and CF-Root over to your desktop by right-clicking on each of them and selecting Extract here.

2. Right-click on Odin executable and select Run as administrator.

3. When Odin launches, click on PDA and choose CF-Root available on your desktop. The file that you need to choose is the one that you extracted from the archive and not the archive itself.

4. Ensure that Repartition is unchecked in the Odin.

5. You can checkmark Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.

6. Power off your device.

7. Power on your device in download mode. To do that, hold down Volume DOWN, Home, and Power buttons together.

8. Hit Volume UP when you see a warning message on your screen. You’ll reboot into download mode.

9. Plug in your device to your PC while it’s in download mode.

10. Click Start in the Odin and it’ll start flashing CF-Root on your device.

11. Your device should automatically reboot when CF-Root’s flashed.

12. You’re done!

And there you go! Your Samsung Galaxy Note Edge on Sprint now has root-access. Feel free to load up your device with your favorite root-only apps, as they’ll all work fine without any trouble.

  1. I just ordered the Note Edge Sprint version from Best Buy. It says it’s model SPHN915BLK. I want to root it when it arrives but the this is a slightly different model number than the SM-N915P. Will it work??
