Vizio, the HDTV Maker, Dabbles in Android Phones and Tablets
So out of left field, we have Vizio (yes the TV manufacturer), coming out with a tablet and touchscreen phone both running Android. The two devices, pictured above, are set for a release date in Q2 of this year and have some decent specs.
The phone has a 4″ LCD screen with 854×480 pixel resolution, a 5.0MP camera on the back, a VGA camera on the front, and a 1 Ghz or more processor inside (no word on who makes it or the exact clock speed). The tablet has an 8″ LCD screen with 1024×768 pixel screen, a 5.0MP camera on the back, a VGA camera on the front, and the same “1 Ghz or more” processor inside.
Both the phone and tablet have 4GBs of internal storage (2GB for apps and 2GB for media), a microSD card slot, and are running Android 2.2 or 2.3 (not sure what they will be running by Q2 though) with heavy customization on top. One other feature that they have added is an infrared transmitter at the top. Think about it, the TV company gives their tablet and phone the ability to change the TV’s channels etc. Makes sense right?
No the craziest specs (especially for Q2 of this year), but still interesting to see Vizio branching out a bit, no? Vizio also says that they will try to be as aggressive as possible with pricing so they might be a great budget option for people.
