T-Mobile makes the LG DoublePlay official

After the leaked picture we saw some days ago, the LG DoublePlay has now officially been added to T-Mobile’s veritable collection of Android smartphones.  The device, as we recently saw, features dual touchscreen displays and a split QWERTY keypad – a design most reminiscent of the old Sidekick which was so popular in the younger crowd at one point.  Here, the target consumer is the same (i.e., the constantly texting teen) – couple that with Android and its offering of many teen-centric apps, and we could see this device selling by the hordes once it is outed.

For other specs, the DoublePlay makes do with a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, HSDPA network support, and a 5mpx camera.  The device will be running Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS overlaid with LG’s own UI to make things more attractive (or slow things down, depending on the way you look at it).  The primary display, measuring 3.5 inches, can work independently or in tandem with the smaller 2-inch screen, depending on the type of app being run – meaning that a user could update his FB status or tweet on the smaller screen about the sweet game he is playing at that moment on the primary display.

No release date has been announced, but the previously revealed November 2nd should serve as one until T-Mobile decides to change things.
