Amazon Kindle Fire Gets Unofficial Ice Cream Sandwich Love
Thanks to the hard working developers over at XDA, the Kindle Fire tablet now has access to an unofficial Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update. Members of the xda-developers forum published a “pre-alpha” version of Android 4.0. which is based on the popular CyanogenMod 9. Keep in mind that the ROM is currently in its infancy stage, and as to be expected there are still numerous bugs that need to be worked out.
Intriqued Kindle Fire owners looking for a taste of Android 4.0 should also take note that installing the custom Ice Cream Sandwich ROM will remove all of Amazon’s customization features from the tablet. This includes the tablet’s user interface and deep integration with Amazon services. If that doesn’t seem to bother you, then check out the demo video above to see Android 4.0 in action on the Fire.
