How to Root the LG G2 (Verizon)

As you may already know, the LG G2 is up for grabs on the Verizon and if you’ve bought one for yourself, you’ll be glad to know that you can now root your device. Usually Verizon devices are a bit tricky to root but thanks to the XDA devs, we now have a super-easy method to gain root-access on the device and get the best out of it. Without further ado, let’s see how you can root your LG G2 (Verizon) smartphone:

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. You should have appropriate drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, get them from here.

3. This procedure should work on Windows based PCs only.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Root Package (Download link’s available in the first post)

III. Rooting the LG G2 (Verizon):

1. Download and place the Root Package archive onto your Desktop.

2. Unzip files from the archive over to your Desktop.

3. Turn ON the USB debugging option on your device by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Developer options>>USB debugging.

4. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

5. Pull down the notifications bar on your device and select Ethernet mode as connection type.

6. Double-click on root.bat file available on your Desktop and follow the on-screen instructions.

7. And you should now be rooted!

Congrats! Your LG G2 has been successfully rooted and you should be able to see the Superuser app installed on your device. Now is the perfect time to load some root-only apps on your device and unlock the true potential of your device!

IV. Flash a Custom Recovery Image (Optional):

1. If you would like to flash a custom recovery image in order to flash custom ROMs, head to the How To Flash a Custom Recovery Image on the LG G2 (Verizon) to learn how to do that.

If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.

  1. I tried this several times, but always get hung up after opening root.bat and following the instructions. The phone shows- now send the package you want to apply to the device with “abd sideload ” cannot get any further and do not know how to sideload, screen won’t let me do anything else on the phone after that. I have the LG G2 VS98024A, running android 4.4.2. HELP, if you can.

    1. Hey Gil,

Sideloading refers to the process of installing an APK from other than the Play Store source on your device. It’s like copying the APK to your device, opening a File Manager and installing it. As simple as that.

  2. verizon pushed a new update vs98026A, this breaks the ability to root. When it attempts to load the recovery, it has an android laying on it’s back with a red information icon over it’s belly. Can anyone help?

  3. Adding onto Pat’s comment, my phone’s update is now vs98027A, assuming this rooting method will not work? I’ve been trying to find a reliable rooting method for weeks now but don’t want to risk bricking my phone as I use it a ton. 1. Does this rooting method still work? 2. If not, are there any rooting methods currently out there to root the LG G2 4.4.2 software version VS98027A?

  4. i followed the steps showed above and completed the procedure… but don’t have the superuser installed on my phone. does that mean that my phone is not rooted or i would have to install superuser separately?

It doesn’t work… I have an LG G2 VS98039A from Verizon…. it is tricky to get the abd.exe to read the device, you have to pull down the top menu and click on the USB connection and select it instead of MTP to PTP like a camera… then it reads it, but when you get to the part of updating the firmware it gets stuck for good… it can’t recognize the device any longer, it recognized it once but was unable to update the firmware, and now it cannot even recognize the phone…
