How to Unroot the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint)
Perhaps you’re done playing with root and custom ROMs on your Android device? Regardless of the reason, it’s usually pretty easy to unroot your device and go back to the stock firmware.
Some of the reasons for unrooting your Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint) are:
- Sending in the device for warranty (most, but not all unrooting procedures reinstate the manufacturer warranty if you had one before rooting).
- Starting over (simply undoing everything you did while rooted so you can have a clean slate to start over).
- Fix any issues (Maybe rooting messed something up? No problem, unrooting will take care of it for you).
Ready to get started? Here’s how to unroot the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint):
I. Before You Begin
1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.
2. This procedure should only work on Windows based PCs.
3. You should have required drivers installed on your PC. If you don’t, you can download the latest drivers from here.
4. This only works for the SM-G900P variant of the device.
II. Downloading Required Files
1. Download Odin and save it to your Desktop.
2. Download the appropriate stock firmware for your device and save it to your Desktop.
III. Unrooting the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint)
1. Extract files from both Odin and Stock Firmware by right-clicking on each of them and selecting Extract here.
2. Double-click on Odin executable and it’ll open.
3. Click on PDA and choose the stock firmware file you just extracted to your Desktop.
4. Make sure Repartition is unchecked in the Odin.
5. Put a checkmark in the boxes that say Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
6. Turn OFF your device.
7. Turn it back on by holding down Volume Down, Home, and Power buttons together.
8. Press Volume Up and you should reboot into Download mode.
9. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
10. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll start flashing the stock firmware on your device.
11. Once the firmware’s been flashed, your device should automatically reboot.
12. You’re all done!
All set! You are now running stock firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S5 (Sprint) and have unrooted it.
Want to try again? You can always reroot your device by heading to our Rooting How To’s section, finding your device, and doing the How to Root listed for it there.
Will this unlock the samsung galaxy s5 sprint?
Hi Gerald,
What do you mean by unlock? You mean SIM Unlock?
The procedure above only unroots your device (it means it puts your device back onto the original Samsung firmware). It does NOT sim unlock your device.
Hope it helps!
Thanks!
this phone have Sprint network but i need unlock for Straight talk .no one can create one all say that it’s impossible! But really can not create one something? there must be full of output. IMEI 990004748386095
Sprint uses CDMA technology, thus their devices cannot be unlocked for use on other GSM carriers.
It’s just their technical limitation.
Thanks!
my phone shut off during the boot and now nothing at all
PLEASE HELP ME
I’m with Sprint and these instructions worked great on my Galaxy S5, starting from rooted stock BOG1 (penultimate 5.0 build).
