Cat S60 Unboxing & Specs: The Most Rugged Phone Ever? (Video)
Cat recently sent me their latest ultra-rugged Android phone, the S60. Since it’s new tech and the internet gods must be satiated, that means it’s time to do an unboxing. Full review coming later (when I get a chance to do something “rugged” with it), but for now, let’s see what comes with it and check out some of its the Cat S60’s listed specs.
First up, we have the S60 itself – which we’ll get to in a second.
Under that we have a pair of headphones, the USB charger, the MicroUSB cable, and the warranty and quick start guide that people like us, just won’t read.
The phone itself, unsuprisngly, resembles the heavy duty equipment Cat is known for. From the metal rounded edges to the carbon fiber-looking back and yellow accents and the familiar Cat logo on the back, you can tell where it’s roots lie.
Working our way around the device, we have a volume buttons on one side, our power button on the other along with a yellow programmable button, a covered compartment for the headphone jack, MicroUSB slot and an SOS button that feels like the button used to launch missles. Which, of course, makes you want to press it even more. Thankfully if you do it simply launches an app that you can use to then send your information to an emergency contact (and doesn’t just call 911 instantly).
On the back we have the 13 MP camera with dual-LED flash, but we also have a thermal imaging camera made by FLIR.
Besides, said thermal camera the phone’s other promoted feature is the fact it is drop-to-concrete resistant up to 1.8 meters, military spec certified, and waterproof for up 5 meters for 60 mins. You are very much reminded of this fact when you pull the latch on the back to open the SIM card and MicroSD card slot and then close it with a certain oddly-satisfying click.
On the bottom of the front of the device, we have our three physical buttons for home, back, and multitasking.
We have our speaker at the top of the front as well as these small yellow toggles that, one can assume, close the speaker and microphone grills to allow it to reach that 5 meter depth (at the cost of muting the phone). Without toggling those, it’ll still keep the waterproofing, but only to 2 meters.
Underneath all this hardware the phone is running on Android Marshmallow, with an octa-core Snapdragon processor, 3GBs of RAM and 32GBs of internal storage.
There you go. Quick specs and unboxing of the Cat S60. Let me know what you guys think in the comments and stay tuned for my full review after I get back from that festival in the desert I’m attending. Follow me on social for live updates while I’m there!
