How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Lenovo S880

While the Lenovo S880 runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich as its OS, it’s definitely not the latest version of the Android firmware. Lenovo seems to be a bit slow when it comes to rolling-out firmware updates, however, custom developments let you upgrade your device to a newer version of firmware without waiting for any official updates. In order to get such custom developments (custom ROMs) on your device, you need a specific type of recovery called custom recovery. It lets you flash firmwares with a tap of a button and is pretty easy to get it installed on your device. Here’s how:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Check out our root guide to root your device.

2. This should replace your current recovery with the CWM Recovery.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. ClockworkMod Recovery Image (Download link’s available in the first post)

2. Mobile Uncle APK (Download link’s available in the first post)

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Lenovo S880:

1. Place both the files you downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy both the files you have on your Desktop over to the root of your SD card.

4. Once the files have been copied, unplug your device from your PC.

5. Open the File Manager app on your device and install the Mobile Uncle APK you just copied.

6. Once it’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.

7. Tap on Recovery Update button and choose the CWM Recovery Image you copied earlier to your device.

8. Let it flash the Recovery Image on your device.

9. Once the recovery’s been flashed, reboot your device.

10. And you’re all done!

Brilliant! The CWM Recovery has been successfully installed on your Lenovo S880 and you should be able to flash custom ROMs right away!
