Lenovo Aims at Entering U.S. Smartphone Market ‘Within a Year’
During an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing stated that the company is looking for new ways to expand and that entering into the U.S smartphone arena may provide the perfect opportunity for growth. Currently, Lenovo is the second-largest smartphone seller in China, but the company’s smartphone business hardly exists here in the United States. Yang hopes to change all of that and quickly by harnessing a strong marketing campaign within a year.
Lenovo will stay open minded to acquisitions, including in the smartphone business, if it will help the company grow and increase sales channels. No word yet if Lenovo has any smartphone related acquisitions currently in the works.
We encourage competition in this industry and would love to see Lenovo share its products stateside. Lenovo’s latest baby the K900, was recently released in China and sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 2GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2580 processor and 13-megapixel camera, all within a remarkably slim 6.9mm body. It’s a solid smartphone offering and for the right price would probably do well here in the U.S. So, while we will still have to wait to see what Lenovo plans to launch here in the states, at least we know what the company is capable of producing.
