How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Asus Padfone 2

So you just rooted your Asus Padfone 2 and wishing to flashing a custom recovery on it? No worries, here’s how you can do that. While root-access lets you do many things on your device, a custom recovery expands that list of things you can do with your device. With such a recovery, you can create nandroid backups, flash ROMs, etc. Here’s how you can flash a custom recovery on your Asus Padfone 2 device:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have done our How to Root the Asus Padfone 2 procedure.

2. This will replace your current recovery with the CWM Recovery.

3. This works on Windows based PCs only.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. ClockworkMod Recovery Image (Download link’s given in the first post)

2. Fastboot

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Asus Padfone 2:

1. Place both the files you downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Extract files from both the archives over to your Desktop. Make sure you’ve adb.exe and fastboot.exe files on your Desktop.

3. Turn ON the USB debugging option on your device by heading to Menu>>Settings>>Developer options>>USB debugging.

4. Once it’s been enabled, plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

5. Launch a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, simply hold down the Shift button and right-click anywhere in blank area and select Open command window here.

6. Type in following command into the Command Prompt Window:

adb reboot bootloader

7. Your device should reboot into the bootloader mode.

8. Now issue the following command to flash the recovery on your device:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

9. Once the recovery’s been flashed, reboot your device.

10. And you’re all set!

Excellent! The CWM Recovery has been successfully flashed on your Padfone 2 and you should be able to start using it right away!
