How to Overclock the Samsung Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile)
Want to boost the performance of your Samsung Galaxy S4 by overclocking it? Great! Follow our guide below and you should be able to overclock your device to run at a faster rate than ever.
I. Before You Begin:
1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Samsung Galaxy S4 procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.
2. You must have CWM Recovery installed on your device. Follow our guide on the same to do that.
3. This should work on AOSP/CM ROMs only.
II. Make a Backup:
1. Head over to Google Play and download and install the Quick Boot app on your device.
2. Once the app’s been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.
3. Hit the second option in the app that says Recovery.
4. Your device will reboot into the CWM Recovery mode.
5. Now select backup and restore followed by backup.
6. It’ll take a backup of your entire firmware, called as nandroid backup.
7. You’re done with the backup!
III. Downloading Required Files:
1. Chronic Kernel (Download link’s given in the first post)
IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Samsung Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile):
1. Download and place the Chronic Kernel zip onto your Desktop.
2. Connect your device to your PC using the USB cable.
3. Copy the Kernel zip over to the root of your SD card.
4. Disconnect your device from your PC once the Kernel’s been copied.
5. Now launch the Quick Boot app you’ve installed earlier on your device.
6. Hit the Recovery option and you will reboot into the recovery mode.
7. Once there, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.
8. Choose the Kernel zip to be flashed on your device.
9. It should begin flashing the Kernel on your device.
10. Once it’s been flashed, reboot your device.
11. You’re done!
V. Overclocking the Samsung Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile):
1. Head to the Play Store and download and install any of these apps:
2. Once the app has been installed, open it from your App Drawer.
3. Now increase the max clock speed a bit and notice the performance of your device. Make sure not to choose set on boot option as it may lead to crash of your device!
4. Once you find your device to be stable on a specific frequency, just close the app.
5. You’re done!
Excellent! You have successfully overclocked your Samsung Galaxy S4 (T-Mobile) and your device should now be performing much better than before!
VI. Reverting Back to Stock Kernel (Optional):
1. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.
2. Hit Recovery option and your device will reboot into the recovery mode.
3. Once there, select backup and restore followed by restore.
4. Choose the most recent backup you created earlier and it’ll restore it.
5. Once the restoration is done, reboot your device.
6. You’re back to the stock kernel now!
Excellent! You have successfully restored the stock kernel, all of your overclocking settings are lost.
