How to Root the HTC One SV
Maybe you want to make your friends jealous by showing them the root-only apps that don’t work on their unrooted phones? Maybe you just want to flash a few custom ROMs on your device? Either way, this guide should help. The first step towards doing all these customizations is root your device. Once you’re rooted, you’ll have a number of opportunities to customize your device the way you want. So let us first show you how you can root your HTC One SV smartphone and then go about doing customizations:
I. Before You Begin:
1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.
2. You must have unlocked bootloader of your device. If you haven’t, do so now from here.
3. This procedure works on Windows based PCs only.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. ClockworkMod Recovery Image (Download link’s available in the first post)
2. SuperSU ZIP
3. Fastboot
III. Rooting the HTC One SV:
1. Download and place all three files onto your Desktop.
2. Extract files from the Fastboot archive over to your Desktop.
3. Rename the Recovery Image to recovery.img. It’ll make the referencing easier.
4. Turn ON the USB debugging option on your device by simply heading to Menu>>Settings>>Developer options>>USB debugging.
5. Once it’s been turned ON, plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
6. Copy the SuperSUÂ ZIP over to the root of your SD card.
7. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, simply hold down the Shift button and right-click anywhere on your Desktop and choose Open command window here.
8. Type in following command into the Command Prompt Window:
adb reboot bootloader
9. Once inside bootloader, type in following command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
10. It will flash the recovery on your device, should take a couple of minutes to finish.
11. Once the recovery’s been flashed, you’ll see it appearing in the HBOOT menu. Simply select it using hardware buttons on your device.
12. Once in Recovery, select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.
13. Choose the SuperSUÂ ZIP to be flashed on your device.
14. It’ll begin flashing the ZIP on your device.
15. Once the flashing’s done, reboot your device.
16. You’re all done!
Brilliant! You’ve successfully rooted your device as well as flashed a custom recovery on it. Flashing ROMs isn’t a big deal for you now!
The normal procedure to install Busybox doesn’t work for this device, so you’ll need to take help of this guide.
IV. Flash a Custom ROM (Optional):
1. If you are ready to flash custom ROMs on your device, head to the How To Flash a Custom ROM on the HTC One SV to learn how to do that.
If this procedure helped you please thank/donate to the original developers here.
Uh … I download fastboot and there’s no image file.
-:) because shouldn’t be… you have to have these files on your computer in order to run the command: “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img”
“3. This procedure works on Windows based PCs only.”
Not really! It will work on Mac as well if you have adb and fastboot files. And you use terminal, of course! 🙂
Hey Yannin,
The steps given in the procedure are for Windows based PCs and that’s why we mention it works for the Windows based PCs only.
If you’re an advanced user, you can perform it on a Mac as well, provided you know how things work on your OS.
Thanks!
hello Bro
Could you tell me how can i unlock bootloader for my htc one sv coz i can’t find the model in website http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader
thank you
Have nice day
you have to scroll down to where it says ‘all other supported models’ or something like that
I see recovery…but when i choose it i don’t get the option to load from sdcard
BIG Problem: Bootloader unlocked successsfully, Clockwork Mod Recovery flashed successfully. When I go to flash the superuser ZIP, the superuser app is installed, but i have no root access! Am i supposed to wipe data and cache when i flash the superuser zip? I have read through different xda and unlockr guides to no avail, i have superuser, but no root access… Help?!?! Thanks
Have you figured anything out yet?
I have the exact same issue, which I suspect is due to trying to use an incompatible Superuser Zip file. The Superuser ZIP link above is broken and the mirror is useless as it provides a RAR file and SuperSU, which both do not work. The RAR file doesn’t even list in the “Choose zip from sdcard” selection and the Zip file failed to install. I also tried extracting the Superuser RAR and putting its content in a Zip file and while it did list, it also failed to install.
What I did try was a Google search on “Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip” and downloaded a matching file I found listed on the XDA Developers forum. This file did successfully install, but still no root access. For example ES File Explorer will not open Root Explorer and I got “Permission Denied” when I tried installing Busybox with the linked guide. I did not want to try any other Superuser Zip file, as I really do not want to brick my phone with an incompatible version or risk installing Malware.
Hi,
Try flashing this file – http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
and let us know if it works for you. Thanks!
That worked! Root at last =)
Thanks for your help.
Glad it worked for you!
We’ve updated the procedure with the new SuperSU file.
I used this supersu but it does not work.
While loading supersu it shows that is flashing and it looks like its working.
Then a message popsup saying “Your device is NOT rooted. Do you want to install supersu?”
I also tried the following versions of supersu:
1.94
2.02
I did use TWRP recovery image because the clockwork is not working (getting stuck on entering recovery)
any ideas?
What did you do when it asked you if you want to install SuperSU?
still no root for me. i did all the stuff, tried with supersu and superuser, still no root. please help
Try flashing this file – http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/
I started here but when this didn’t work I tried other methods to the ppint where theris nothing elseI can try…after flash phone will not enter recovery! please help
does this work on the cricket version also? or is this just for boast mobile??
Okay so I am trying to unlock bootloader and I’m following the steps on the htc website and I downloaded everything that’s needed but when I get to step five where it tells you to type in “fastboot oem get_identifier_token” into the command prompt, I do but then it tells me that fastboot isnt recognized as a command, program or file?? SOMEONE HELP PLS
did you put all your files on the desktop?
That means you don’t have the fastboot.exe file on your desktop. Are you sure the fastboot exists on your desktop? Please double-check and let us know.
Thanks!
help!?! superuser.zip does not exist anymore xc
Hi Andrew,
A mirror link has been added to the procedure. Thanks!
i hope this is not a dead topic. I unlocked bootloader. Great! I flash the recovery.img to the phone. Great!. then when i try to booot into the recover it jjust gets stuck on “entering recovery” then boots over and over. what the heck am i doing wrong. I have the CrickeT HTC one sv
stuck, says entering recovery
Hey, I had the same problem but I figured out a way to fix it.
The recovery image that is given here is outdated.
Instead of flashing the recovery.img that is given here, use this one: http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/k2_cl/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-k2_cl.img
I renamed it to recovery.img and followed the rest of these instructions and it worked!
I try entering the adb reboot bootloader with phn connected on command screen but get device not found what may be the problem
Hi Art,
You probably don’t have the correct drivers installed on your PC. Head to the HTC website and download and install the drivers first.
The problem should be solved then. Thanks!
Yes thank you I was able to get it to read it wit some steps on.Google but now when I try to go into recovery on boot loader I click on recovery and the phone just boots off and back on to home screen I had tried rooting it before so I think the phone has another recovery already saved would you know how to remove the current recovery it has to flash a new one ? Thank you for your time appreciate it alot
even though i’ve flashed the image multiple times and go to recovery my phone wont go into the clockwork mod
hey sir
im really not good in this flashing tool
well im at hboot usb plug step

I’ve completed all the steps to root my HTC One C525c. The bootloader is unlocked. The custom recovery has been flashed. When I try to boot into recovery, I even get “entering recovery” on my phone… and then it doesn’t enter recovery. It just restarts normally. If I could figure out how to actually boot into recovery, I think everything else is already done. Help?
nice
When i get into recovery option it say entering recovery… and my phone just hangs onto that screen until i remove the battery. Please help asap!
