How to Overclock the Sony Xperia Neo V

Overclocking is one of the customizations you should definitely do if your device’s performance is poor and you want to improve it. What this overclocking does is it allows your CPU to run at a faster rate than its predefined rate and lets you enjoy some extra speeds on your device. If this sounds good to you, then follow our guide below that shows how you can overclock your Sony Xperia Neo V smartphone:

I. Before You Begin:

1. You must have rooted Xperia Neo V before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Xperia Neo V procedure first and root your device.

2. You must have unlocked bootloader of your device. Check out Sony’s website to unlock your bootloader.

3. You must have CWM Recovery installed on your device. Follow our guide on the same to do that.

II. Make a Backup:

1. Head over to the Google Play and download and install the Quick Boot app on your device.

2. Once the app has been installed, launch it from your App Drawer.

3. Tap on the Recovery option and you’ll be taken to the Recovery mode.

4. Once in Recovery, select backup and restore followed by backup.

5. Create a backup of your entire filesystem and save it on your device.

6. You’re done!

III. Downloading Required Files:

1. Suave Kernel (Download link’s available in the first post)

2. Fastboot

IV. Flashing the Overclock Kernel on the Sony Xperia Neo V:

1. Place both the files you downloaded to your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Fastboot archive over to your Desktop. You’ll get fastboot.exe along with some other files.

3. Rename the Kernel Image to boot.img.

4. Turn OFF your device.

5. Turn it back on by holding down the Home button and plugging-in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

6. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop. To do so, simply hold down the Shift button and right-click anywhere on your Desktop and choose Open command window here.

7. Type in following command into the Command Prompt Window:

fastboot devices

8. It’ll show all the devices that are connected to your PC in Fastboot mode.

9. Now issue the following command to flash the kernel on your device:

fastboot flash boot boot.img

10. It’ll start flashing the kernel on your device, should take a minute or two to finish.

11. Once the kernel has been flashed, issue the following command:

fastboot reboot

12. Your device should reboot.

13. You’re done!

V. Overclocking the Sony Xperia Neo V:

1. Download and install any of these apps on your device:

SetCPU

IncrediControl

2. Once installed, launch the app from your App Drawer.

3. Use available options in the app to increase your CPU clock speed. Keep on doing so as long as your device doesn’t crash.

4. Make sure not to select save on boot option in the app as it may crash your device.

5. When you feel your device’s fine with a specific clock speed, close the app.

6. You’re all set!

Wonderful! Your Xperia Neo V has been successfully overclocked and you should be able to notice the changes immediately!

VI. Reverting Back to the Stock Kernel (Optional):

1. Launch the Quick Boot app from your App Drawer.

2. Hit the Recovery option and you will be taken to the Recovery mode.

3. Once in Recovery, select backup and restore followed by restore.

4. Choose the most recent backup you have there to be restored on your device.

5. It’ll start restoring the backup on your device, will take some good time to finish.

6. Once the backup’s been restored, reboot your device.

7. You’re all done!

Great! You’ve successfully flashed back the stock kernel on your device!
