How to Root the Galaxy Note 3 (T-Mobile Version)(Video)
The Galaxy Note 3 has root access thanks to Chainfire and his CF-Auto-Root method. Now, this does only work on certain versions of the Galaxy Note 3 (mainly the ones with unlocked bootloaders) but if you happen to have one of the versions listed here, then you’re in luck. One of the big things that people want root access for on the Galaxy Note 3, is the ability to use other apps with the Pen Window feature (a seriously exciting prospect). Give it a go and let us know how it goes for you.
I. Before You Begin
- You must be using Windows.
II. Root the Galaxy Note 3
- Head to the developer’s post here and look in the third post down for the downloads. Download your specific version for your device and save it to your Desktop.
- Extract the .zip file so you have a .tar.md5 file when it’s done extracting.
- Right click Odin from inside the extracted folder and select Run As Administrator.
- Click on PDA and select the tar.md5 file you extracted earlier (also make sure Reparition is NOT checked in Odin).
- Turn off the Galaxy Note 3.
- Turn it back on by holding down Volume Down, Power, and Home at the same time. Press continue to put the phone into Download Mode.
- Plug the phone in via USB.
- Click Start.
- Once it reboots, you’re all set.
III. Enable All Apps for Use with the Pen Window Feature on the Galaxy Note 3 (Optional)
1. Head to the rest of our How To’s for the Galaxy Note 3 and find the How To Enable All Apps for Use with the Pen Window procedure for your version and follow those steps.
III. Flash a Custom Recovery (Optional)
- Head to the rest of our Rooting How To’s for the Galaxy Note 3 and find the How To Flash a Custom Recovery procedure for your version and follow those steps.
If this procedure helped you, please consider thanking or donating to the original developer here.

Using this root method sets current binary and system status to custom. Additionally, it will also trigger the KNOX warranty void status. The KNOX warranty status change is permanent, and a service center may deny warranty based on this flag
