How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy 5
If you’re having issues flashing a custom recovery on your Galaxy 5 using the ROM Manager app, this manual method should do the trick for you. Once the recovery is flashed, you should be able to flash custom ROMs and Mods, backup your ROM and so on. Here’s how:
I. Before You Begin:
1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please check out our How to Root the Samsung Galaxy 5 procedure to learn how you can root your device.
2. This will install the famous CWM Recovery on your device.
II. Downloading Required Files:
1. Download the CWM Recovery (.tar) file and save it to your desktop.
2. Download the Odin archive and save it to your desktop.
III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy 5:
1. Extract files from Odin by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.
2. Double-click on the Odin executable and it’ll launch.
3. Checkmark the box that says One Package.
4. Click on One Package and choose the CWM Recovery file you downloaded earlier to your Desktop.
5. Turn OFF your device.
6. Pull the battery, SIM card and SD card out of your device.
7. Put the battery back in your device leaving the SIM and SD card outside. Do NOT turn ON your device.
8. Press and hold Volume DOWN+Center+Power buttons together and your device should reboot into Download mode.
9. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
10. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll start flashing the recovery on your device.
11. The recovery should be flashed in a couple of minutes.
12. Once it’s done, reboot your device.
13. You’re all done!
