How to Unroot the LG G3

Maybe the custom ROM you’re using on your LG G3 just doesn’t cut it? Or maybe you want to go back to stock to see how things looked like when you took the phone out of the box? Either way, this guide should help you unroot your device and get it back to stock firmware.

Unrooting is the process of removing root access, a custom recovery (if you have one), and just trying to get the device back to as close to stock as possible.

Some of the reasons for unrooting your LG G3 are:

  • Sending in the device for warranty (most, but not all unrooting procedures reinstate the manufacturer warranty if you had one before rooting).
  • Starting over (simply undoing everything you did while rooted so you can have a clean slate to start over).
  • Fix any issues (Maybe rooting messed something up? No problem, unrooting will take care of it for you).

Ready to get started? Here’s how to unroot the LG G3:

I. Before You Begin

1. You should have rooted your device using the procedure given here.

2. This should only work for the D855 and F400 models.

3. You should have required drivers installed on your PC. If you haven’t, you can download the latest drivers from here.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download Flash Tool and save it to your desktop.

2. Download the Stock Firmware that is for your device and save it to your desktop.

III. Unrooting the LG G3

1. Extract files from Flash Tool as well as Stock Firmware to your desktop by right-clicking on each of them and selecting Extract here.

2. Double-click on Flash Tool executable and follow the installation wizard to install it on your PC.

3. Turn OFF your device.

4. Hold down Volume UP and plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

5. Your device should now be in Download mode.

6. Launch Flash Tool on your PC by double-clicking on its shortcut available on your desktop.

7. Click on three dots next to DLL and choose the DLL file you extracted from the stock firmware archive.

8. Click on Add next to S/W and add the stock firmware file available on your desktop. It’s the file you’ve extracted from the actual firmware archive.

9. Click on the Yellow icon shown in the tool.

10. It should say it’s waiting for your device.

11. When it says ready, unplug the USB cable from your PC and then plug it back in after a couple of seconds.

12. It’ll automatically start the flashing process.

13. Reboot your device when the flashing’s finished.

14. You’re done!

Brilliant! Your LG G3 is now unrooted and is running the official stock firmware. You have now reinstated the warranty of your device.

    1. Unfortunately, the above procedure does NOT work for your device. As for the difference between the devices, you can refer to Google as that’ll help you find the right information.

      Thanks!

  1. How can I unroot without flashing a ROM? I don’t have a custom ROM installed but I would like to unroot. Thanks

  2. I downloaded my stock firmware (32gb-hkg), extracted the zip but it only contained a tot file, no dll whatsoever. I can’t extract the tot file. What do I do?
