How to Root the Lava Iris X1
Are you rocking a shiny new Lava Iris X1 smartphone? Want to get the most out of your device? Then go ahead and gain root-access on it. It’ll help you unlock the true potential of your device that’ll enhance your user-experience as well as let you modify all the settings of your device.
Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device. Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.
Once you have root access on your Lava Iris X1, you’ll be able to:
- Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
- Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
- Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
- Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
- Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
- Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

Hey guys this is an honest review of this phone. I’ve used it for more than a month and then I sold it on olx and this is my experience:
Lava is an indian company. And as a budget device manufacturing company, they keep in mind the average people while making their devices. The main flaw in the design of these devices is that, THE 4GB INTERNAL STORAGE IS DIVIDED INTO TWO SYSTEM PARTITIONS (1.1GB FOR APPS AND THE OTHER 1.36GB FOR OTHER MASS STORAGE OR AS WHAT THEY CALL “SD CARD”).
This is totally un-cool. You buy a device to get more storage and what you get is a low space and a bunch of flaws in the UI. Yes you can insert a memory card. But… after you move your application to the sd card, it simply vanishes after you reboot your phone! AND IT ALWAYS HAPPENED NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO!!! You can check online, you can check on xda devlopers site. Everyone is complaining about this!
Then I tried to use a different memory card. I thought that it may be my card that is causing this trouble. I was using samsung 2GB class 4 memory card. So I switched to a 16GB class 10 (samsung only) and I spent 1200 bucks for it! And you know what happened?? IT NEVER WORKED! I TRIED ROOTING BUT THE KITKAT MADE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO ROOT! SO I WAS UNABLE TO PERFORM THE ROOT! AND IT SHOWED THAT THE CARD IS CORRUPTED! I replaced the order from snapdeal (their service is just mindblowing. the guy never even asked me for a thing and replaced it without any disputes). But you know what??? SAME RESULT!! I TRIED IT WITH MY CARD READER ON MY LAPTOP. AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY FINE!
I know that many people doesn’t have a concern about applications. You just love those iphone-ish looks don’t you. WELL, I DID TOO!! And you know what happened? One day my brother dropped it from even less than a meter’s height and bamm! The side silver bazzle got scrached and not even that! The back got a little damaged just by one blow! Now no matter what I fit there, back cover or the flip cover, it just won’t fit perfectly like before!!
It’s a relief that I managed to sell the phone and the guy who bought it didn’t notice it. Otherwise my money was totally wasted you know!
So please guys, think twice before buying these sort of “good looking” phones. They’re just good for photo shooting and for making and receiving calls. NOTHING ELSE!
Hello Dhaivat,

Thanks once again!
I just posted something that I felt was appropriate.. Hope I didn’t offend any fans of this phone… 🙂
Everyone likes genuine reviews 🙂
Well, that’s comforting!
Yep!
My reaction to your review is ‘BULLSHIT’.
I brought this phone on Aug 28th 2014 for 8 or 7 I don’t remember exactly.. Yeah I agree with you about the storage problem(I have the 8GB version). So I brought a 8GB SanDisk SD Card, moved my apps restarted my phone couple of times and nothing happened. All apps are still there.Either you havesome lame reason to lie or the phone you brought has problems.
The camera is superb.
Super fast.
No lags.
Have lots of apps and games too.
Best phone under 10k if you care more about user experience than brand.
I’m going to share my experiences with this phone.
I had purchased this phone after my Micromax Unite 2 was pick pocketed while returning home from work . ( 🙁 )
After all the harassment regarding notifying the local police station and what not, I decided to buy another phone.
Sadly since it was the middle of the month I had to squeeze my budget a bit.
The lava Iris X1 was being sold by a local retailer for 6999/- so I went for it.
The horror started from the next day.
CONS:
1.Videocore 4 gpu. Was a big thing in the past. now-a-days it stutters even when handling the most basic games. I tried subway surfers on it ( latest updated version ). Stuttered during start. then ran smoothly. so I thought it would at least be able to run Trials Frontier. No. it did not work. I began to feel the difference. and i understood that this phone was a bad investment.
2. Broadcom Quad core. Again, was a big thing in the past when smartphones began to pick up speed. not now. worst processor i have seen. the phone lags like it was running on 512mb ram and a dual core. by this i do not mean disrespect to those people who have dual core with 512mb your phones are optimized to run with that. Lava doesn’t seem to care about optimization sadly.. its just that the phone lags like hell as if an elephant was riding a scooter.
3. Applications transferred to external memory card disappears.
4. A tiny battery. Cant even get one full day of usage. i wish they had given a 2000mah battery at least. my phone has turned into a landline.
5. most memory cards doesn’t seem to work and may get corrupted. i tested a sandisk 32 gb and a transcend 32 gb. sandisk 32 gb got corrupted. i took it out and inserted it into my ordinary phone and formatted it. works perfectly. so its a trouble with the phone.
6. touch is not smooth during operations. this is due to the lag.
7. it says it has 1 gb of ram. i have no idea how a phone with 1 gb of ram can lag so horribly.
8. here is the biggest let down. the phone cant play smoothly its own DEMO video that was supplied with the phone. i tried MX player with S/W mode. it worked perfectly.
so the Hardware is inadequate and is the barely minimum standard required to call it self a quad core. very disappointing.
9. call function lags. between tapping the call icon after dialing a number, the lag is pronounced and very much noticeable.
10. Rooting this phone is a hit or miss type of thing. though it worked for me.
11. loudspeaker is bad. you cant hear it on the bus.
PROS:
1. Shiny. looks like an Iphone clone.
2. camera is surprisingly good and can record high quality videos. the flash is decent. not good. but okay.
so you see, now i am stuck with a phone that’s probably the worse phone i have used in the all the years I have been using cell phones. AVOID LAVA! go for anything else micromax ( I really miss my unite 2 🙁 ) , xolo, karbonn… anything is better than this crap!
As u purchased in low cost it was a defective piece. The retailer cheated u. I have been using lava iris x1 for the last 3 months like a charm. All the games really glides. Runs really
smooth. only the ring and loud speaker sound are low. Othwrwise very good.
i cant root using vroot,it was showing no permission for lava iris x1
This phone sucks……….whatever app we keep in sd card, it disapperars after restart…….GPU is bad too!!
