How to Root the Gionee Elife E5

You won’t realize the true power of your Gionee Elife E5 device until you root it. Root opens up each and every way for you to customize your device the way you want. From removing system apps to even changing the OS version, root lets you do everything on your device.

Rooting is the process of gaining administrative rights on your Android device.  Once we root our Android device, we can then make changes to it to customize it well beyond what it normally can do.

Once you have root access on your Gionee Elife E5, you’ll be able to:

• Remove apps that were preinstalled by your carrier/manufacturer from your device.
• Free up storage space (because of the above benefit).
• Increase battery life (apps that might have been running constantly can be removed).
• Increase performance (after removing apps that are always running, the device will be less bogged down and run smoother).
• Update to a new version of Android (by flashing a custom recovery/ROM, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).
• Tons of other customizations when you use your new found administrative rights to flash a custom ROM (again, see the end of this procedure for more info on that).

I. Before You Begin

1. This will void the warranty of your device. We won’t be held responsible if you end-up bricking or damaging your device. Do it at your own risk.

2. You can unroot your device to reinstate the warranty if an unrooting procedure’s available, though.

II. Downloading Required Files

1. Download MotoChopper and save it to your desktop.

2. Download CWM Recovery and save it to your desktop.

3. Download and install the Mobile Uncle Tools app on your device.

III. Rooting the Gionee Elife E5

1. Extract files from MotoChopper to your desktop by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.

2. Turn ON USB debugging on your device by heading to Menu > Settings > Developer options > USB debugging.

3. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Double-click on run.bat file available on your desktop and it’ll launch.

5. It’ll start rooting your device.

6. Reboot your device when it’s rooted.

7. You’re done!

Brilliant! Your Gionee Elife E5 has been successfully rooted. If root isn’t enough for you, you might want to flash a custom recovery on your device. It’ll then help you flash custom ROMs and custom mods on your device. Here’s how:

IV. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Gionee Elife E5

1. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

2. Copy CWM Recovery from your desktop over to the root of your SD card.

3. Once it’s copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

4. Launch the Mobile Uncle Tools app that you installed earlier on your device.

5. Tap on Recovery Update.

6. Select the CWM Recovery Image you just copied to your device.

7. It’ll start flashing the recovery on your device.

8. When the recovery’s flashed, reboot your device.

9. You’re all set!

Excellent! Your Gionee Elife E5 now has a custom recovery as well. You can now go ahead and flash your favorite custom ROMs on your device.
