How to Quickly Respond to a Message in iOS 8

A neat little feature Apple added into iOS 8 is the ability to actually interact with notifications, instead of just tapping them to open the corresponding app. You could always swipe up on a notification to dismiss it, but now you can swipe down to actually take action on it without having to open it. It may not seem like much but, trust me, it comes in handy (and you end up getting used to it pretty quickly).

It doesn’t work for all notifications just yet (but I’m sure more and more app developers will add the functionality into their apps as time goes on), but, for now, you can use it for all of your iMessages and texts as a way to respond to people quickly without having to head to the full-blown messaging app.

Here’s how!

1. Slide down on the message notification when it arrives at the top of the phone.

Notification Come In

2. A small text field will appear. Tap on it.

Pull Down on the Notification

3. Enter in your message and tap Send to have it sent back to that person (either via iMessage or text depending on how you normally correspond with each other).

Respond and Hit Send

Boom! Faster than ever to respond to your friends, family, and any other impatient person that needs you’re input stat!
