How to Set a Timer for Selfie Shots in iOS 8

Let’s face it: selfies are awkward. They’re always too close to your face, and you’ve got that arm sticking up at the bottom or side of the camera. Selfies are terrible, but you’re not going to stop taking them, so let’s just make this situation better, shall we?

With iOS 8, you can take a selfie — but not have it look so quick and terrible! In this article, we’ll walk you right through how to set a timer for the perfect selfie. Hey, you could even get some friends involved!

Setting a timer for selfie shots in iOS 8

1. Launch your camera app.

2. Select the camera-switch icon on the top left to switch to the front-facing camera (if it’s not already set to the front camera, that is).

3. Select the clock icon just below it. Choose either a three or ten second timer.

4. Click the shutter button, strike a pose and wait for the camera to go off!

Yeah, that’s really it, too! It’s simple, and your selfies will likely get a lot better. If you set your phone down, you might even be able to avoid that weird arm-sticking-in-the-frame thing that happens with selfies.

You can even take a step back and get a full-on buddy pic, and still see how it will look via the screen. Once you’re done taking timed selfies, just remember to switch the timer back to the off position. Nothing worse than trying to capture a moment only to realize you still had it on timer mode for that perfect duck-lipped picture!
