T-Mobile Repents for Sidekick Outage (Even Though It’s Danger’s Fault)

So if you haven’t heard there was a huge disaster in the Sidekick world this last week. Danger/Microsoft’s Sidekick servers went down. These servers hold all Sidekick users information, email, contacts, etc. so if they go down, those things disappear off of your phone. Well, the real issue is that Microsoft reported that they might be able to get information back but “it’s not looking good” and some users may not get their info back at all.

Needless to say, Sidekick users everywhere got really pissed and I’m sure T-Mobile got flooded with “I’m going to switch to AT&T etc.” phone calls.

tmo repenting

Well, according to one Sidekick user, T-Mobile is repenting in a big way. Here is a list of the things they did for her since all her data was lost:

  • $15 off her current month’s bill
  • Next month’s entire bill is paid for
  • $100 gift card in the mail after 14 days
  • Option to upgrade to G1 or MyTouch 3G for the full discount price on T-Mobile.com

Way to repent T-Mobile (and Danger who is actually the one responsible even though T-Mobile is probably getting the brunt of the complaints and backlash)… So Sidekick users, get an Android. You’ll be happier anyway 🙂

Thanks Mariela!

  1. Yeah I use to be a sidekick user for a long time. I loved it for awhile then switched to a blackberry became one of thoughs nerds for a bit and now android. I am happy with my android. Just need to overtake iPhone’s app developement and we would be set!

    1. ThePharmacist,

Yea, well with the amount of phones coming out with Android it will be very soon that the number of Android users will exceed iPhone users (since you’re not limited to one phone) and that means more potential users/buyers for your App so Devs will start flocking soon. Just wait.

  2. Talking about sidekicks I hear from a t-mobile dealer that they are making a new sidekick that will have the android on it and I think touch screen

    1. Mitchapalooza,

I doubt my friend. That would make it not a Sidekick. Not too mention Danger the company that makes Sidekick software, is owned by Microsoft and Microsoft would much faster put Windows of sort (which they won’t do on a Sidekick, wrong demographic) before they put their biggest competitor Google’s OS on the phone.
There have been rumors about touchscreen sidekicks for the last 2 years (ever since the iPhone came out). And I don’t doubt they might go that way at some point, but I don’t think it’ll have any other OS than the Sidekick OS by Danger. If they do, it won’t be a Sidekick, it’ll just be a Sharp manufactured smartphone 🙂

  3. I work for T-mobile and I would HIGHLY doubt the future Sidekicks would have Android on them. All of us who are sales reps already advise all customers looking at sidekicks to go into a G1 since it is a million times better, and cheaper I may add. Then again, i had no idea what the pulse was until last night 🙂

    1. Hello Listeryn,

Same. You get it for the price on T-Mobile.com (but keep in mind that it may not be all customers…)
Call 611 and ask, let us know what they tell you.

  4. hey @ TheUnlockr, after MC took over Danger, they fired most of the workers there and they have been working on a project called PINK and it seems like it is going to be a windows OS but with the same usual interface that the sidekick already has which means they will add extra things such a zune option on the phone and just change a few things around the phone, but overall they made two prototypes of the upcoming sidekicks I would also like to add that MC might discontinue its project i dont know the reasons yet, but here are the links of the “future sidekicks” made by microsoft-

  5. Data is miraculously recovered! lol j/p. I knew there had to be a backup somewhere. Must have been the offsite tape backups. Anyways, now people won’t get their $29 G1’s with 19.99 Unlim data/text.
