LG Launches the LG G6: Waterproof, Tiny Bezel, Google Assistant & More
Welp, it might come as less of a surprise thanks to all the leaks that we’ve been seeing, but the LG G6 is finally official. And it’s no joke.
My Hands-On Video:
First up is the screen. A 5.7″ 2880 x 1440 touchscreen with a unique 18:9 ratio, in other words, it’s a bit taller than it is wide compared to more traditional 16:9 screen. Think of it as that ultrawide monitor people like for their computers. The screen also has a pretty tiny bezel on the sides and no physical buttons (thank god, Android has buttons on screen and it’s so odd to me companies keep including the outdated buttons on their devices). Because of this it gives the G6 an “all-screen” sort of feel (not quite as much as the Xioami’s Mi Mix but sexy-looking for sure).
The screen also supports Dolby Vision, an engine that helps the display, and HDR 10 which is a term you’re going to be hearing a lot more this year, I imagine. HDR or High Dynamic Range is slowly permeating its way onto TV’s and other displays and essentially means higher contrast ratios (deeper blacks, bright whites, etc.).
The body is also made out of aluminum and is IP68 certified so that’s one more than the iPhone 7 for those keeping count and basically gives it another half a meter in depth of waterproofing for the same amount of time (1.5 meters, 30 mins).
Like the G5, the G6 has dual 13MP cameras on the back, one being the standard angle and one being the wide angle lens for getting more in the shot. The front camera is also a 100 degree wide angle lens for help getting all your friends in your selfies without the use of that damn stick.
On the software side we have LG’s UX 6.0 as well as Google Assistant built-in (remember that big reason Google wanted you to buy the Pixel? Yeah….).
Check out the bulleted spec sheet for more info. Also, LG was kind enough to let me borrow a device so expect a quick hands-on coming ASAP. Subscribe to the YouTube channel to be notified when that goes live.
What do you guys think? What you expected? Do you likkkkeeeee?
