Gingerbread update for the HTC Evo 4G on June 6th

Late last month, Sprint had mistakenly put the HTC Evo 4G on sale with Android 2.3 on its online store, but as it turned out, Froyo was still the OS onboard.  The carrier is now looking to rectifying this error by updating the Evo 4G for real, if an Engadget tipster (and his convincing snaps of the Sprint event calendar) are to be believed.  The update is set for a rollout starting June 6th, next Monday, but antsy users could get it as early as this Friday, by checking for the update manually.

Aside from the usual improvements that the Android 2.3 update brings, Sprint and HTC aim to fix a few bugs that have been known to bite the Evo 4G, including texts sent to wrong contacts, failed sync with multiple Gmail accounts, and battery problems.
