Xperia X10 Has T-Mobile USA 3G Built In?

Xperia X10

Android guys managed to get a spec sheet for the Sony X10 and while we pretty much know what specs it is going to have, there was a very interesting portion that was previously unseen. Take a look under Networks > Variant 1…

X10 Spec Sheet

See it? Next to UMTS HSPA? That’s right 1700mhz. That frequency is the 3G frequency used ONLY by T-Mobile USA. So that would mean the Variant 1 of the X10 would get T-Mobile 3G here in the US 🙂

Now, there are a few scenarios as to why that is there:

1. The phone is heading to T-Mobile USA as a branded handset and you will be able to get it with or without a contract from a T-Mobile store (locked to T-Mobile).

2. This could be like the situation we saw with the X1 when it first came out, spec sheets had 1700 all over them (they actually had pentaband 3G which had all 3G frequencies used in the world), we got super excited and then when launch came, 1700mhz wasn’t in it.

3. Sony could be taking a hint from Nokia and their launch of the N900. They could be making unlocked versions of the phone and one could just happen to have T-Mobile’s 1700mhz 3G built in. This way you could then have AT&T and get variant 2 (because it has 850 and 1900mhz built in, which are AT&T’s two frequencies) or you could have T-Mobile and get the Variant 1 with 1700mhz.

Now the issue with this last situation is that it will be priced at Sony’s normal retail pricing which will be pretty steep I’m sure. BUT there are other companies, like Mobile Unlimited, that sell unlocked phones with T-Mobile service for a discount that would soften the blow a bit.

UPDATE: Also, this phone is supposedly coming out within the next two months…

So if this is the case, anyone on T-Mobile rather get this than an HTC Passion?

  1. It has 1G of internal memory vs. 1/2G for the Bravo (of which only 256M is RAM).

If it’s GSM and the Bravo is CDMA it means you can surf and talk at the same time on the X10 and you can’t on the Bravo.

    I’ll take it in white.

    1. James,

Interesting, but that report is more than 2 weeks old. We got this new spec sheet after that.
Also if that is the case that just means Option 3 I said and that is fine by me, so long as 1700mhz is in there, I’ll get it somehow 🙂 And I know Mobile Unlimited will have it still if that is the case…

  2. I understand unlockr but from the beginning we knew there was a tmobile usa 3g band. your report plus one i posted suggest that the usa tmobile version could be purchased but not in the us meaning not going to tmobile.so im going to say V1 will not be sold here. but im am excited i hope you guys the the community purchase like you guys did for the nokia.

  3. i agree with james on this sonys page says that the version need for t mobile wont be sold in america and dont think it will be.. plus whats to say this spec page wasnt made buy someone… theres no indications it is official… i hope people arent getting there hopes up, just to get there hopes crushed at the end.. i think tmobile has a better chance of getting the passion.. but if the x10 and passion do come to t mobile ill go with the passion… i love htc phones and would perfer 2.0+ over 1.6… 🙂

  4. The x10’s handle on the 1.6 is quite innovative. Enough to make me more than curious. The specs are great and 2.0 has already been mentioned to come along with multi-touch. HTC is throwing devices out left and right. Sony would be more invested in this single product’s success (or we would hope) as I would guess than HTC versus any one of their slew of individual models. That’s not to say the passion isn’t an awesome choice breathing that dragon breath onto the droid. It’s just htc keeps branding these cookie cutter handhelds with little innovation software wise. Still HTC is the sh!t!!!

  5. On what business terms do the people here say that the phone won’t be on T-mobile 3G? Its a great deal for T-Mo USA that needs good phones to up the ante against AT&T, and Sony Ericsson is in the business of selling phones. why spend the money and make a compatible version, and then decide not to sell it to the millions on T-Mo USA? Right…!!! If both companies are smart, they will work on a deal to subsidize and offer the phones.
