Android Market and Google Checkout Scheduled Maintenance Today
Google sent out an email to it’s developers on the Android Market to let them know that their Google checkout accounts will be unavailable today between the hours of 4pm and 5pm PST (7pm and 8pm EST). Also going down for the hour, is the ability to purchase paid applications from the Android Market. Any attempt to purchase a paid app during that time, will simply fail. After the maintenance is complete, however, everything should be back to working order.
Not a big deal at all, but I thought maybe some of our readers might like to hear this info so they don’t start cursing at their Android phones when they really want to download Fruit Ninja during that time.
Wonder if this update will change anything in the Market itself? Probably not, but one can hope…

We’re writing to inform you about a planned service outage impacting Android Market that requires your attention.
On Wednesday, June 15th, Google Checkout will be unavailable from approximately 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. PDT due to planned system maintenance. During this time, you will be unable to sign in to your Merchant accounts (http://checkout.google.com) and transactions will not be processed. The Android Market Developer Console (http://market.android.com/publish/) will still be available.
During the outage, users will still be able to view paid applications on Android Market; however, any attempts at purchases will fail. No new orders will be created. After the maintenance has been completed, all normal activity will resume. No action is required on your part.

WTF? Are they actually telling us that the millions of Android users will not be able to purchase apps for an hour today? That’s what it sounds like but I can’t really believe it.
Devs are going to get killed handling user complaints. People blame devs not Google when purchases fail.
