New Phone: Dell Mini 5
So the new Dell Android device called the Dell Mini 5 has officially been pictured.
Here are the rumored specs:
1Ghz Snapdragon Processor
5 inch Capacitive Screen
5.0MP Camera with Flash
WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS
AT&T’s 3G just got approved with the device in the FCC
Take a look for yourself:
Not a bad decision for someone on AT&T, right? Wonder if there will other carrier versions…
Anyone want one?
Check out the rest of the pics and a quick video of the phone booting up.

wow i want this…this is nutz
I’d be willing to tote one around and see how it compares. I love the large screen, but what’s its resolution?
I heard it was 480×854 like the droid but 5 inches is a lot of canvas. I think I could manage to tote it around as a daily phone. Why Donut though? Why not go all out with 2.1 atleast? I will be watching AT&T for this one. HTC bravo would be awesome too!
This and a reasonable bluedouche headset could really rock, but it would probably mean I would have to start carrying around some form of man purse or the dreaded fanny pack. Or find a coat acceptable in the desert at 110 degrees (where I live) with big enough pockets.
But that assumes it has more than 800×400 resolution.
COME ONE! T-MOBILE NEEDS GO STEP UP THEIR ANDROID GAME!
No wonder the telcos think we’re idiots. Hey, VT! T-Mobile (in the US) already has FOUR android phones – including the Nexus One.
No one else comes close.
This looks retarded, the point of a phone is to be small, easy to carry, and thin.
The iPhone is already big enough and now this comes out.
They should focus on creating better software not a bigger screen.
The dialer and home screen is just down right ugly.
way to big for everyday use but still looks good
Linuxluver: All of TMobile Android phones with the exception of the G1 are a joke… They don’t seem to count… They don’t have any legs…
Like the just re-released MyTouch 3G… They should have moved on over to the HTC Hero/aka HTC Legend as an update… I know the MyTouch sold a lot of phones… But was because the Hero was not available in the US & Canada & other markets for a long time…
The Nexus One is not a TMobile phone… Especially with just one contract available…
I do hope there is a TMobile version of this Dell… The size is awesome for us non-talkies that would prefer to surf, text & watch shows instead of jabber on most of the time… I won’t be getting any HTC SuperSonic on Sprint that’s for sure… Might be tempted to resub with ATT for this one… And I really hope Dell is working on A2.1 already…
this is crazy where is it going to stop if you want this why dont you just carry a netbook with you might be about the same size. and prob a whole lote more reliable cause it wouldn’t be on AT&T.
Stealth110,
Funny you say that, I just bought a Asus T91MT netbook and keep it in my car lol I think the line between netbooks and phones is slowly disappearing (especially with Windows 7 native touchscreen drivers, flick controls, multitouch, etc.)
Stealth110: I think 5″ is the limit… Or we might find out it’s past the limit for cell phone portability vs. MID… If this thing was any bigger… I would say just get a 10″ netbook… I am a Trillian type of guy.. Trillian= All in one… So I prefer to just carry one device that can do most things very well, than to carry two devices that do them perfectly or close to perfectly… I hope this Mini5 does everything very well…
I think we will all have to go to a store and take a model for a spin before buying it… There will be a line of dudes waiting to stick this think in their pockets… And a mirror to see how much of a douche one of this things held up against the ear makes one..lol
“I got something in my pocket for u… Why don’t you reach and see what it is…”
I don’t have it… It’s a freaking Dell Mini5…
OK, the size of the screen is not a problem! I would like to see all phones made with several screen sizes to choose from. Everyones fingers and needs are not thesame!
BUT WHY……. do all these manufacturers keep on makeing UGLY looking phones(Devices)Im sorry to say this but compared to the iphone all other mobile devices hit the dust! (G1 for example)….
im not an apple fan and do not own or an iphone… dont even go there!
Also,
Android = Ugly … say all you want.. u know im right!
This looks soo cool, I want it!
@Peter
Android=Ugly
not an apple phanboy lol
how many douchebags like u this plane needs
I mean planet
Dude this thing is sexy as hell. This must be the dell android phone that AT&T said they were getting.
Nexus One IS currently a T-Mobile phone, Y314K. Not sure what info you’re going by, but it’s a contracted phone for T-Mobile at $179 for a 2-year deal. It’s also an unlocked GSM for any provider, but no one but T-Mobile is subsidizing it yet.
Mike: I know the Nexus One can be sub on TMobile at a discount… But with only on one plan. If you call that a full TMobile phone… That’s fine… I don’t…
Although u can buy insurance for it now… You cannot do the Early Upgrade after 12 months like with the full on TMobile phones… Also… You can move on over to a Family Plan but only if the cost of both lines = the cost of the single contract x2 aka, you are force to get unlimited text even if you don’t want it… TMobile doesn’t make you get unlimited text with their phones… Just the unlimited data… Till Goole opens up the phone to the normal TMobile contracts… It won’t be a TMobile phone… In my book… It’s a google phone being allowed to be subbed under a single plan controlled by google not Tmobile…
WOW!!! The Dell Mini 5 is getting even more interesting…
“We’ve been able to confirm in a chat with Dell spokesfolks this evening that the lovely Mini 5 won’t ship with the Android 1.6 build (also known as Donut) that we’ve seen so far — instead, it’ll be running “something newer.” They wouldn’t say what that newer version would be — and to be fair, we’re not sure they even knew since Android is always a moving target on account of Google’s breakneck development pace — but it was specifically mentioned that Flash compatibility was something they had on their radar, suggesting that something really, really fresh might be needed. Then again, they also mentioned that the giant phone / MID / thingamajig is going to be totally upgradeable, something that fellow Android skinners HTC and Motorola have both had to reassure the Android-buying public over. How this all shakes out remains to be seen, but let’s put it this way: Eclair, at minimum, seems to be a lock by the time the Mini 5 is on a shelf near you.”

And it just keeps getting better…
ATT & Tmobile should have this MID/Phone…

Although I am still not sure why the rumor of it costing the same as the black market prototype is still going around…

Should be the phone to get..lol
@christian
hey get an Ipad
the ui on this phone looks ugly but the actual phone looks ok we all know devs can and will ha k and hook this up. 5″ is the bigest a phone should get but i will never get this phone cuz my nexus one is truely amazing every one should get one
Jason White: There is no UI on the Dell Mini 5… What you see is Android 1.6… If you are comparing A2.1 vs A1.6… Anybody will tell you A1.6 looks ugly… But that is comparing a 6 month old orange with a 1 month old orange… One is old and beat up.. And the other is fresh and smells devine… The Dell Mini 5 has been confirm to be release with A2.X (Which ever version does full on Adobe Flash…) So don’t judge the Dell by it’s cover yet…
I personally prefer the look of the HTC Desire compare to the Nexus One… But neither one is an ugly phone… And I find this Dell Mini 5 to look as good or better then the HTC Desire… Hope it’s not to big when it comes out…

Dell Mini 5 docking station with HDMI port spotted in bizarre Greek video
http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/19/dell-mini-5-docking-station-with-hdmi-port-spotted-in-bizarre-gr/
“the dock will have HDMI output and a USB port (for connecting to the computer, we presume) on the back.”
The rumor is that this dock will come bundled with every Dell Mini 5… Unlike the Nexus One dock..
