Is Android Coming to Your TV?

Well, according to the Wall Street Journal, Dish Network and Google are busy running tests for how to do just that.

The tests apparently add Google’s Android OS to your TVs box-set. This allows you to use a keyboard to search for what you want to watch on TV. It would then show you your regular Dish Network programming that met the search criteria along side an internet search of sites like Google’s YouTube.

This could be big news for both Google and Dish Network. The Dish Network would get great searching ability (which it currently lacks), like the ability to search for “food show” and get all the food shows playing at the moment up on the TV. Google would also benefit by extending their already massive reach from the internet to your other main screen in your house, the TV. Google would also have their YouTube and Adsense ads display during the search results and during your shows so it brings them more potential revenue from advertising (their key product offering).

The other major benefit of this would be that Android apps would now also work on your TV…

Anyone excited by this? Anyone else scared?
