Apple iPhone 4S Hits 1 Million Pre-Orders On The First Day

Apple quickly put to rest any doubt that the public may have had in their recently unveiled iPhone 4S handset with the news that it has already reached over 1 million pre-orders in the first day. This initial pre-order rush is significantly higher than the 600,000 devices that were pre-ordered during that iPhone 4 launch.

Apple is claiming not only is this a record for the iPhone device lineup, but an all time record high for all Apple products.

“We are blown away with the incredible customer response to iPhone 4S,” Senior Worldwide Product Marketing VP Phil Schiller said. “The first day pre-orders for iPhone 4S have been the most for any new product that Apple has ever launched and we are thrilled that customers love iPhone 4S as much as we do.”

All hype aside, the impressive pre-order numbers could be a result of the following factors. First, Apple has a uniquely long update process which left a huge consumer base of 3G and 3GS users that were just waiting to trade in their older models. Second, consumers have also had the entire summer to simmer their interest in the device, and Apple can now reap the benefits of having the three largest US carriers, AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint to push their iPhone 4S.

Regardless of an impressive first day, the iPhone 4S still faces mixed analyst reviews- leaving only time to determine the true sucess of Apple’s latest device.
