Research In Motion’s Music Service Goes Live Today: Offering 2 Month Free Trial to BBM Music
The finalized version of Research In Motion’s (RIM) music service, dubbed ‘BBM Music’ is expected to launch in Canada and the United States later today. BlackBerry users will be able to find the app within the BlackBerry App World for a $5 monthly fee. However, RIM is offering a free two month membership as an incentive to join now.
BBM Music subscribers will have to depend on BlackBerry’s messenger service to optimize the music service. A user can only select a maximum of 50 songs without the help of their fellow BBM friends. In order to increase your overall music collection, users have to persuade their BBM friends to get the service, and then their music is added to the total pool. A user can swap out up to 25 of their own songs each month.
Additional BBM Music features include offline caching, shared playlists, and a central feed to update other members updated when other users add new songs or connect with someone else.
We’re interested to see if this new service stands a chance against other popular music streaming services like Spotify or Pandora. Any BlackBerry users out there? Tell us if you would sign up for BBM Music.
