AT&T Launches New York City Park Wi-Fi in 11 Areas: Battery Park, Astoria Park, Prospect Park and More

AT&T has started to make good on their promise to bring public Wi-Fi to twenty New York City parks today by launching it in eleven areas to start. Now the public can take advantage of AT&T’s Wi-Fi service in some of New York’s most famous city parks.

AT&T started the project in the following areas: Battery Park, Prospect Park, and Astoria Park, Joyce Kilmer Park in the Bronx, Thomas Jefferson Park in eastern Harlem, Herbert Von King Park and McCarren Park Field House in Brooklyn, Rumsey Playfield, Marcus Garvey Park and Tompkins Square Park in Manhattan, and Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island.

The Wi-Fi access does not require an AT&T account to work, although some AT&T phones will automatically recognize an AT&T hotspot and connect slightly faster.

Today’s launch covers a little over half of the original 20 promised parks, but still leaves out Central Park for now. AT&T was recruited by Mayor Bloomberg in an attempt to ensure New York becomes a “digital city”.

  1. This is great news, especially on a day like today when all we want to do is go outside to enjoy the weather in Astoria Park! Now we know we’ll be able to take our laptops outside and work from there!
