Sprint Unleashes Revamped Data Plans and Express Mobile Hotspot Device
In an attempt to beat out the competition, Sprint unleashed new data plans and a new Express Hotspot device for their consumers today. The revamped data plans are a combination of 3G/4G data plans that include a 6GB, $50 per month plan or a 12GB, $80 per month option. Each plan offers 20 percent data at the same price that AT&T and Verizon offer, Sprint explained, where 5GB is the status quo.
Overage rates are now five cents per megabyte, and off-network are 25 cents per megabyte. The new data plans replace any previous offerings from the carrier. Additionally, Sprint customers who are only looking for a tablet only plan can now take advantage of 3GB of data for $35 per month or 1GB for $20 per month.
The carrier also unveiled a new hotspot device called the Express Mobile Hotspot. The device enables up to five Wi-Fi devices to connect through it to Sprint’s 3G/4G data network. In ideal conditions, the Wi-Fi range reaches up to 262 feet. Additional device features include a removable 2,200mAh battery with up to seven hours of use, an included USB cable, a microSD memory card slot which enables a thumb drive, and an external display for battery life, status and signal strength.
Pricing and availability for the Express Mobile Hotspot device have yet to be announced.
