LG Optimus 3D to get Gingerbread update later this month
Initially scheduled for an October outing, the Gingerbread update for LG’s first 3D smartphone, the Optimus 3D, has been delayed yet again to later this month – November 21st to be more specific. The update will start rolling out initially in Europe and that too for unlocked devices only, with carrier-branded devices left to wait for some more time until the update is approved by the telcos. Highlights of the update include improved HSPA+ speeds and 3D video editing capabilities among other tweaks.
As for Ice-Cream Sandwich 4.0, LG has revealed its plans to get this to most of the Optimus lineup, but with Gingerbread just getting popular on these devices, LG users have a long wait ahead before an official ICS update is out. That doesn’t mean users can’t enjoy the update though as there are already many Android 2.3-based custom ROMs just waiting to be flashed and now that the Android 4.0 source code is out, the same trend should continue with this update, eliminating the long, hard yearning for an official handout.
