Spring Design’s new Alex eReader has officially went on sale as of today. It sports a dual screen with a 6″ e-ink display at the top and the bottom features a 3.5″ color touch LCD.

Additional Specs:

  • Custom Android 1.5
  • 600MHz Marvell CPU with page buffer
  • 16-bit color capacitive touchscreen can display 320-by-240-resolution video at 15 -30 frames per second
  • Google Books can be downloaded and it’s compatible with other bookstores that support Adobe DRM ( EPUB, PDF, HTML, and TXT formats)
  • Other supported files: JPEG, GIF, and BMP graphics, MP3 audio, and MP4, 3GP, and FLV video
  • Highlight, record comments in your own voice, or add hyperlinks. A marker will remind you or tell any other reader that more information can be found
  • Android Apps: web browser, calculator, mail,  gallery, and a music player
  • 2GB of internal memory
  • 2GB stock expandable to 32GB
  • WiFi
  • Microphone, 3.5mm jack, mini-usb
  • It is available in either a black or white case. Reviews say it has a solid construction and it is very lightweight and east to stow away. Although no 3G wireless is integrated, you can connect through your PC via USB or through the Internet via an 802.11 b/g wireless. The 3G wireless models are due out later this year. One thing Android fans will notice is the lack of an Android market or equivalent. You can purchase them for about $399 at various online retailers.

Still an interesting way to use Android, no?
