ZTE Speculated To Pay $27 Per Windows Phone Manufactured In Licensing Fees

Have you ever wondered how much it costs to license Microsoft’s acclaimed Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system? Well, in what was once considered a grey area, new per-handset figures have emerged for the first time. According to TrustedReviews, ZTE is said to pay approximately $27 per WP7 handset made. This figure recently surfaced during ZTE’s launch of their flagship Windows Phone, the ZTE Tania.

Seems a steep price to pay considering the Android OS is proudly open sourced, which means it doesn’t cost manufacturers anything to install on their handsets. Nevertheless, it appears ZTE seems thrilled to launch their first WP7 smartphone, even if it does end up costing them.ZTE has yet to comment on the speculated licensing figures. Source
