Froyo to Include Wifi Tethering Built In
So according to Engadget (and this screenshot they received above), Froyo will have built in Wifi tethering! This is great news, BUT you must keep in mind that the chances of the carriers here in the US allowing this feature on their Android phones is VERY slim. So while the unbranded version of Android Froyo will have this feature any phone you buy from a carrier with Froyo on it will most likely have this removed.
Now, even with it removed, it is still good news for carrier bound Froyo phones. The reason is that you have to root your phone to get wifi tethering as it is right now, so that won’t change. BUT since their will be an official Froyo wifi tethering system, it’ll be much easier to install on rooted phones. Developers can easily make custom ROMs with the official WiFi tethering installed and you can just flash it onto your carrier branded phone without having to change kernels etc (in theory).
Can’t wait for Google I/O and the Froyo features list, how about you?
I am curious about installing the Froyo rom. Can someone instruct me on the install process?
