New Page On Sprint’s Site Details The Shutdown Of Its Nextel iDEN Legacy Network

Sprint has unveiled a new page on their website which details the carrier’s upcoming plans to decommission its iDEN network. In an attempt to improve its network services for the future, the company first announced its plans to shutdown the iDEN network back in 2010. The decommissioning was deemed necessary in order to begin a new network enhancement project called “Network Vision.”

As it appears Sprint is ready to start rolling out its iDEN shutdown, Nextel users can type in their appropriate zip code to see which cellphone towers will be disabled and when.  The disabling of Sprint’s iDEN network starts this month and will see New Orleans as its first city to be thinned out.  Sprint will update other towers for impacts on a 30-day rolling basis.
