RIM Patents Fuel Cell Manufacture For Mobile Devices

A new patent from Blackberry maker RIM outlines a method that might enable future mobile devices the ability to recharge themselves on the go with the use of fuel cells. According the USPTO, RIM’s technology would place a fuel cell assembly between the keyboard and printed circuit board. From there the fuel cell would ventilate through the keyboard. The patent continues to describe that the fuel tank would be located underneath the printed circuit board and users would be able to initiate the fuel cell assembly in some fashion.

While the patent lacks specific details explaining how exactly the fuel tank is filled, we’ll look to the future to see what RIM has in store for us.

  1. Might not be a bad idea for RIM to start making something besides cell phones… then license it out to the cell phone manufacturers that are actually selling phones… burnnnnnnnnn
