Android App of the Day: Music Off, I’m Sleeping

Music Off, I’m Sleeping app for AndroidĀ is the perfect solution for anyone who enjoys falling asleep to their favorite music, but does not enjoy waking up to a dead smartphone battery. The free app smartly uses the accelerometer in your Android device to gradually turn off yourĀ preferredĀ music player as you fall asleep. No more having to guess what time you think you’ll be deeply snoring and no more worry that the app might not work and you’ll be left with a drained battery to start the day. Just set the app, turn on your music, and start counting sheep to your favorite sleepy-time playlist.

Pros:

  • Automatically turns off the music after monitoring the user’s body movement
  • User’s deep sleep behavior turns off music
  • Users are able to set sensitivity to measure their body movement when using Androids accelerometer
  • Sensitivity can be set between 0-20
  • Use test function to set sensitivity
  • Music turns off after the volume decreasesĀ gradually
  • Users are able to set the length of time it takes for the volume to reach zero
  • Minimum battery consumption
  • Simple and easy to use navigation
  • Detailed and uniquely designed UI
Cons:
  • You have to sleep with your phone next to you for optimal app performance
  • Large download (12M)
How it works:
Once you download the app, you will be directed to a simpleĀ home screenĀ that gives you the option to either set the app in ‘Auto Music Off Mode’ or ‘Auto Music On Mode’. Using the sensor built-in the phone the ‘Auto Music Off Mode’ measures your movement. When it detects you are in a deep sleep it automatically turns the music off even if the timer is not over. However, if the device does not detect that you are in a deep sleep but the timer is over the app will turn off the music.Ā When using Auto Music Off Mode you need to place your phone close enough to you in bed that it will detect your movement.
The settings feature found to the right of the home icon will allow you to adjust the app’s sensitivity sensor and select a widget. Additionally, you can upgrade to other features like Music Off + or Turn off the Radio, too. Music Off, I’m Sleeping is compatible for most commonly used music players but if you find that the music player you use will not turn off with the free app you will probably have to upgrade to Music Off +.
Conclusion:
I am one of those people who needs to have music on in order to fall asleep. Until I found out about the Music Off, I’m Sleeping app I was always waking up in the middle of the night because of some random song on my playlist that would jolt me awake. Even worse, on the nights that my music habit wouldn’t wake me up, my phone’s battery life would suffer. This app does exactly what it claims to do and I love using it each night. With this app I can use the music player of my choice and wake up the next day feeling refreshed and energized from a full night’s rest. The app automatically re-sets the volume on my music player so I don’t have to deal with that annoyance the next day. The user interface is smooth to navigate through and has a unique design that I enjoy. If listening to music before bed is a habit of yours this app is an absolutely worth the free download.
