How to Root and Flash the ClockworkMod Recovery on the Verizon Galaxy Tab running Android 2.3.5

If you don’t own a GSM Galaxy Tab and have a Verizon-branded version of the same tablet, you might want to ignore our other rooting guide and jump straight into this one.  Here, we’ll show you how to obtain root access and flash ClockworkMod Recovery at the same time on the Verizon Galaxy Tab, by using a tweaked ROM that is as close to stock as possible but with root access.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Since we are flashing a complete ROM image, you will definitely lose all your data.  Make sure you back up what’s important to you before you proceed further.

2.  Heimdall has versions that work on both the Windows and the OSX platform, so make sure you have either of these operating systems.  If you have a Windows PC, make sure you have Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 installed before you install Heimdall.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  Heimdall Suite 1.1.1 – Windows | OSX

2.  Galaxy Cubed 3 ROM.

III.  Installing the Necessary Drivers

1.  Power down your Galaxy Tab.

2.  Put it into download mode.  To do this, press and hold the Volume Down + Power buttons until the device boots into Download Mode.

3.  Extract heimdall-suite-1.1.1-win32.zip to a folder on your desktop.

4.  In the extracted folder, you should find a folder called drivers with a file called zadig.exe.  Double-click on this to open it up.

5.  Under the Options drop-down menu, click on list all devices.

6.  Select Samsung Composite Device under the ‘USB Device’ section and then click on Install Driver.

IV.  Flashing Galaxy Cubed 3 ROM

1.  Extract the Galaxy.Cubed.3.zip you downloaded from the above link to a folder on your desktop.  You should end up with a folder containing the following files:

2.  From the heimdall-suite-1.1.1-win32 folder you extracted above, double-click on heimdall-frontend.exe.  This will open the Heimdall program that we will be using to flash the Galaxy Cubed 3 ROM.

3.  Now, load the files that you extracted from Galaxy.Cubed.3.zip to Heimdall exactly as you see in the screenshot below (click on the picture to enlarge):

4.  Put your device into Download Mode again and click on Start.

5.  Immediately after the device reboots, enter ClockworkMod Recovery to wipe data.  To enter Recovery Mode, press and hold Home + Volume Up buttons, then press the Power button until you see the Samsung logo.

6.  Highlight wipe data/factory reset using the Volume Up and Down buttons to navigate and then press the Home button to apply.

7.  After the wipe is done, select reboot system now.

That’s it!! You now have a rooted Galaxy Tab with ClockworkMod Recovery installed!!
