Android App of the Day: Skitch
Have you ever sent or received a photo that you wanted to annotate just to draw attention to something in the shot? Maybe you sent your significant other a photo of your new haircut, but all they replied back was “huh?”. That would have been the perfect opportunity to send the photo back with a big fat arrow pointing to your new bangs, with a caption that said “NEW HAIRCUT!”. Thankfully the Skitch app for Android can save the day for when this type of situation arises.
From the same makers of Evernote, Skitch provides you with the power to annotate any picture with a various options that are sure to cover anything that demands annotation.

How it works:
Once you’ve downloaded Skitch, the home screen will provide you with three main options: capture a photo, open up an image, or start with a blank page. From there you can really start to have fun with the annotation options Skitch provides. The primary function of this app is to allow you to write or draw on an image. You can add something as simple as an arrow, write something in text, or scribble a drawing of mustache on your roommate’s face. The sky is the limit with what you can annotate within the Skitch app. Don’t worry if your smartphone has a small display or if you have clumsy fingers as the zoom feature will help you annotate with added precision.
After you’ve finished your annotation you can select it and change the size of it, move it around to your desired location on the image, or change the color of it. If you don’t like a certain annotation you can quickly undo it and start a new one.
Sharing with Skitch is done easily as the app allows you to share with any other Android app that accepts images. This means you can quickly upload your Skitch masterpiece to your social apps like Facebook or Twitter.
Conclusion:
I’ve been searching for a simple-to-use app that lets me quickly annotate images and share them with my friends. Skitch does all of that and also lets me grab images I’ve saved to Evernote because of the tight integration between the two apps. Being a long time Evernote user this is truly ideal. I find myself coming up with excuses to annotate my photos now and always smile to myself when my friends reply with “how did you do that?”, or “what app is that?”. Now when your friends are asking you the same thing, make sure to tell that it’s Skitch, it’s free, and they should get to downloading.
Skitch is available for free in the Google Play Store. Requires Android 1.6 and higher. Play Link
